    I have a 97 Tacoma 3.4L 4x4. Manual 5speed, Manual J gate transfer case.Manual Hubs.

Now heres my issue: My transfer case does not engage the front drive shaft. If I lock my hubs the drive shaft is locked so I know its not the hubs that are the problem. If I select 4lo the transmission goes into low range but still no power to the front. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance!

Broken chain maybe? Drain the transfer case fluid and try to look inside the drain hole with a pen light.

Ive dropped the tranny and transfer case because I needed to replace the clutch. I took the opportunity to look at the transfer case and removed it from the transmission. I cant see anything blatantly wrong. The chain is intact and spins the front flange. However I cant see what ties the power into the chain. I dont see what connects transfer input shaft to the front output shaft. Am I missing something? I cant find much information on this online.(The vf1a)

The synchronizer transfers the power from 2hi to 4 hi . When you pull the transfer case lever into the 4wd position , you are also moving the shift fork from 2 hi to 4X4 . The shift fork moves the synchronized hub from 2 hi to 4x4 .
If you look at this illustration of a basic transfer case . It shows the synchronizer hub # 17 and the fork is # 10

I started to examine it a little closer this morning and a roll pin fell out of the bottom of the transfer case. It is smashed pretty bad, so that explains why it came out. Now my question is where did it come from?

Roll pins hold the shifter forks in place . How long was the role pin and how wide was it ?
In that expanded transfer case picture , look at the two shift forks . # 19 and # 17 and you will see the where the roll pin fits through the forks . If one of the roll pins falls out , chances are you will not get 4x4 or 4x4 low depending on what roll pin fell out
