So my little weiner dog came in front outside and I smelled gear oil on his neck. I'm thinkin "shit!" So I went and did some investigating. The small skid plate under the transfer case had a film of gear oil and it looks like its coming from where the front drive shaft meets the case. pics were hard to get. She goes to see the surgeon at 8am tomorrow. I'll let you know what they say.
An 08 with 10500 miles. Anyone heard of this?

i took it to the dealer, got the part ordered and replaced.
it was the seal for the front transfer case going to the front driveshaft. took about 3 hours. they only really had to remove the front driveshaft. i was worried they would have to drop the t-case and both shafts.
it was leaking around the seal but no specific deformity in the seal that i was told about. no one at the dealer has ever seen this happen and the foreman has been a yota mechanic since 1982.
