I am pretty sure corporate can override that timing.

I've had good luck with royal purple products. They make some different weights and they make the correct weight for the Toyota differential.

Just got the call back from the dealer. They said the transfer case actuator failed, along with its seal. They're saying the parts should be in by Monday, and that it shouldn't be driven until fixed, so I'm driving a Sienna for the weekend.

Yes. get it from Amazon. This stuff should be around as long as audi and bmw keep rolling manual transmissions.

    Order 2.

I've used Ravenol diff fluid on our car before so I new to order 2: you can't take the screw cap off. instead, a little straw thing comes up out of the cap and it's hard as hell to take the cap off to put a pump in. Most of the time the straw thing works well, unless you are trying to fill a horizontal fill hole on the bottom of your vehicle (ie, any diff or t-case). you WILL spill a few ounces, and I had prior experience from filling the front, rear, and center diffs on our car. Bottle's a great design for putting oil into a crank case, not so much with t-cases and diffs.

the t-case takes a little more than a full bottle to fill so, better to have two bottles, factoring in spills. I can't remember what I paid for two bottles, but I know it was under $30.

Just picked up my truck. I asked to speak to the technician that did the work so that he could walk me through what he did (in case it might have been different from the original diagnosis), but he was up to his elbows in another car and couldn't come out. As you can see in the notes on the form, he said the O-Ring was leaking and "may" have damaged the actuator.

For everyone that was interested in the gear oil issue, he refilled the case with Valvoline gear oil. I'm assuming that by "Multi-weight" he means an oil with a cold/warm viscosity rating (e.g., 75W-90).

I know my Toyota shop would fill it up with mobil-1 75-90. Looks good now.

I will be scheduling a 5,000 service here soon with the dealership. Should I bother bringing this up if I don't notice anything yet? Or do you think this is this something they'll automatically check?

Bring it up and have them check...better to look now and catch it early. I'd also print the pics folks are posting here that show leakage at 10K just for good measure, how does the saying go....an ounce of prevention?

Good thought on taking in some pics. So is this related to and/or covered by the rear differential leakage recall or totally separate?

It's will be covered if leakage is found regardless. My TRD was not on the recall list but it was leaking. They took several pics and showed me the leaks. I Then placed a call to Toyota CarCare and reported the finding myself directly to them. I obtained a case number for my issue and Toyota contacted my dealer directly and insisted the dealer place my repair order separate and ahead of the those waiting for parts under the recall. In short, I got my parts waaay sooner than expected and my TRD is fixed now.

Nice work @Law950 very good to know this. Obviously I am just learning all the kinks of the 3rd gens. Man, I really thought I was escaping the whole recall disaster with the 2nd gen frame rust settlement haha. Nope!

I work in the corporate/legal world...in my experience, we ALL work hard for the things we buy. When dealing with issues like this, it's best to catch things early if possible. When you do, go directly to the source, (Toyota CarCare in this case). Have your info ready, know what you are talking about, be courteous, polite, firm and assertive...and most importantly, you have to ask for a case number and case manager be assigned because they WILL NOT do it or offer it unless you ask for it.

Found a small amount of fluid outside my transfer case around 9200 miles. It was thin and pink like transmission fluid so I was skeptical it was the transfer case, but when I took it in the pulled the transfer case and replaced two shaft seals, 90311-43013 and 90311-43008. They gave me a rental car, no hassles, and finished in one day. The seals weren’t on hand, or they would have repaired same day. I picked it up off hours so I didn’t get a chance to ask them any questions. It’s strange why new seals would leak.
