I recently passed 30,000 mi and changed out the x-fer case, front end and rear end oils and came across something a little strange. I bought all the fluids in advance based on the owner's manual, which states gear oil is to be used in the transfer case. When I drained the case though, it had regular oil in it, not the familiar thick, smelly gear oil I expected to see. I called the dealership to make sure I was putting the right stuff back into the case but I wanted to see if anyone else ran across this or noticed? I'm guessing a lot of you still do your own maintenance.

no....the transfer case oil was clear, my rear diff was black coming out. The rear is used hard compare to transfer case. The oil was still pristine. If you just put the 75-90 you should be fine. There are several threads on this.
