Transfer case quitting?

I took my 2008 in for service ( 260,000 miles)
I told them that I'm hearing a slight grinding at slow speeds and felt shaking on the highway.
I was told the noise was coming from the Transfer case.
They did a tire rotation and a front alignment in there service appointment, shake I think is gone will pay more attention in the following days.
What could of failed in the transfer case, can you fix a case or just replace it?
How hard to replace, is a used on as good as a new one?
Has anyone have this happen to there truck yet?

 

whèn you shift into 4x4 do you hear àny unusual noises ? when was your last transfer case fluid change ?
its not common for the transfer case to make noise in 2 wheel drive unless its been run low on oil for a lengthly period .

 

How do your u-joints look/feel?

 

The dealer said that they had the truck up on the lift , running and the only noise they heard was coming from the transfer case .

 

I'll have to look. What should I look for?

 

Try to twist the two sides of each joint in opposite directions, there should be no slop. Do you grease them?

 

NO Are there Zerk fittings ?

 

On your 4WD, yes there should be. Three on the rear driveshaft, two on the front. The ones on the rear are obvious, on one of the caps. On the front, they are more hidden.

 

Ha ha 2008 truck with never greased Ujoints ? I don't think you have transfer case problem
You most likely have U-joint problem.
Which would be great, because cheap fix to get new u-joints.
