hey yall lol, noticed my transfer case is kind of caked in fluid and seems to be leaking but i don’t know from where. for some background- truck has a brand new driveshaft, and whole new axel with new(er) locking diff in the back, and all new rear suspension, so i’m trying to work my way to the front on this trucks issues since i need to do my clutch soon aswell. Ive done research on a few places in maryland, but was wondering, if something is wrong, replace it completely? (oem/other)? get it fixed? cost estimates? facility recommendation? Anything u know about t case repair and replacement will be beneficial!! thanks so much!!

Different truck but when I stripped the threads on my 2nd gens case they said it's not really cost effective to rebuild it but just better to replace it with a low mile used case which is what I went with

First thing you always do is to CLEAN it. Let it dry then you can see where the leak is coming from. Get some degreaser or go to the "quarter car wash" and clean up the case.

Is there oil dripping when parked? Does your t-case work to engage 4WD?

Check the fluid level. Top in off if it is low. And do as @Kleenax suggested. Clean off the grime and see where it might be leaking from.

FWIW, there is a breather vent at the top of the t-case. If the breather is clogged and not functioning, it might cause some gear oil from inside the case to seek out of the top seal on the case.
