I need a new transfer case for my tacoma. My tacoma came with the transfer case that has electronic components the part number is 36110-3534. I replaced it with a full manual and discovered the front axle is more complicated than I thought and the axle won't engage without the electronic components this new transfer case is missing. Does anyone know if there is a place I should look for a replacement transfer case or a way to adapt the current one I have?
    Thanks

Why don't you just ask someone parting out their j-shifter truck if they'll cut out their Trans relay with a length of harness?

Then you can yank the 4WD ecu and solder in the trans relay in it's place.

    That's what I did when I converted to a j-shifter from a push button...

Just in my notes.. I'm only familiar with 03/04 trucks thou. I don't have any other years of ewc's at my disposal atm... But I doubt there's a difference.

Want me to list the wire conversion here?

There seems to be 3 plugs hanging from the transfer case and a 3 pin or 4 pin sensor bolted in. Just trying to figure out where those go.

What years your truck? Auto or manual? Engine size? Do the plugs have a grey, blue or black connector?

    Give me a few.

Oh, I'm doing a 4x4 conversion. I see a green, grey and blue connector.

Again, I can only confirm this on 03/04 trucks.

This is the 4WD ECU connector for the 2-4 push button Transfer case ADD trucks. Located in the dash, behind the ashtray.

This is the Transmission Control Relay connector for j-shifter ADD trucks. It's located on the passenger side near where the rear of kicker panel, carpet and bottom of the firewall all meet. It's under the carpet, attached with a bolt.

I'll only list pin to pin conversion numbers to keep it simple. That's why I included pictures of the connectors. I recommend a EWD for wire colors in case cut wires are mixed up.

Not all pin spaces are occupied by pins on either connector. 16 wires for the 4wd ecu, only eight for the trans relay. 7 wires of the 4wd ecu aren't used, and are to be left un-terminated.

    4WD ECU>>>>>>>Transmission Control Relay

    Pin3>>>>>>>>>Don't need leave unterminated

    Pin4>>>>>>>>>Don't need leave unterminated

    Pin9>>>>>>>>>Don't need leave unterminated

    Pin10>>>>>>>>>Pin#5

    Pin11>>>>>>>Pin#1

    Pin13>>>>>>>Don't need leave unterminated

    Pin18>>>>>>>Don't need leave unterminated

    Pin22>>>>>>>Don't need leave unterminated

    Pin23>>>>>>>>>Pin#10

    Pin24>>>>>>>>>Pin#4

    Pin25>>>>>>>>>Pin#2

    Pin26>>>>>>>Don't need leave unterminated

Pins6&12>>>>>>Pins#3 & #9 All these wires need to be connected to each other.

Pin19&21 Solder these two wires together. They don't need to have any electrical relationship with the Transmission Control relay.

And here's the only difficult part. This is the IK2 connector:
    e5.jpg

It's located above the glove box behind the passenger airbag.

If you have a manual transmission, go ahead and snip pin 4 & solder in a length of wire and run it to the remaining pin#7 of the TCR.

If you have an automatic. It gets tough. Because Pin4 on the IK2 connector is a shared ground. So you'll have to find the soul white-black wire from the 4wd position switch located on the TC and cut the wire and feed Pin#7 of the TCR from that.

Actually now that I think about it. I only cut the wire for pin 4 from the harness shortly after it entered in through the firewall. And checking through a multimeter by continuity to find which wire it was. So I'd imagine it'd work the same for automatics because the shared splice point and ground source are on the cab side end of the engine/tranny/TC harness which is IK2, IK3 & IK6.

Make sure to use a multimeter.

Yeah try to get a donor harness for the tranny/TC/engine combo you're trying to turn your truck into. Way cleaner install. No jank butt slices or even solder points to go bad on you under the truck...

It seems the 01-04 has everything behind the dash. Everything else is hit or miss. I pulled the e-locker harness cleanly off a messed up looking rear harness from an extended 02 cab, depinned all the wires I didn't need. Now I know where they go and can just connect them to my current harness and be done with.
