I need to find out what transfer case my 1997 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 will need. I was told there are 5. Toyota dealer can't tell me there records don't go back that far. I have no idea what to purchase. It will be a used one. Anyone out there know. I would appreciate any answers or ideas.

    Welcome to the Forum !

Are you able to take pictures ?

That would be the best .

Find another dealer these people are to lazy .Unless things changed quite a lot in a few weeks.

Unless your Truck has been changed with the VIN on a online Toyota Site you should be able to figure out what you have.

    Good luck!!

Did they say why you need one? They rarely break, so I’m suspicious.

It would not be the first time one was bumped into neutral .

The enduser was told it needs replaced.

Here's how you can identify the transfer cases - either by comparing it to the t-case you have in your Tacoma (if it's out already) or based on your knowledge of the features your truck has):

Step-by-Step Replacing the Transfer Case on a Tacoma
