I believe I may have a bent worn or broken shift fork in my transfer case. I've never tore into a transfercase personally . Would it be worth it to fix what I have or would it be wise to replace with a used TC? Any pointers or guides or stickies around on transfer case rebuild? My truck is 3.4 5speed 4wheel driver shifter in the floor. I don't even know what this transfercase any help opinions and pointers would be awesome

Wrecking yards should guarantee a used one for 30 days and install it, too.

What's the problem with it? What's it doing wrong? Junk yard seems like the best bet for a new one

Why do you beleive you have a bent or worn shift fork ? what does the transfer case do or not do ?
There isnt much involved in replacing a shift fork . $ 150 bucks if you do it yourself

ADD was optional, but most seem to have it.

So your 4wd doesn't work in other words? You should check and be sure it's the transfer case before you go tearing it out and putting in a new one. How about the actuator if you have an add diff? And what about the jobs if you have manual hubs?

My truck is manual hubs no add actuators .The chain isn't broke if you jack all 4 wheels up the back spin not the front . if I lock my hubs and spin the wheel the driveshaft will spin but the 4wd does not work I've check voltage in the fuse panel which check out good the fuse was good

Worth knowing how it operates and exactly what condition the internals are in is what you get in rebuilding.

Getting back on the road asap is what you get with buying used but how long you last is a bit of an unknown.

As mentioned by another poster, I'm not messing around with either option when it comes time. Hoping to get a lefty from Marlin Crawler. gear driven transfer cases are hawt shit.

I'm a bit confused by the term "never has pulling power".

So, when TC is in 4hi or 4lo, the front drive shaft does not rotate at all?
    Have you confirmed this visually?

It could be a shifter issue, or something internal, since this is a manual transfer case. If the front shaft does not rotate under power. Honestly I have not seen this condition without something else also showing as a problem, be it noise or something else. Not trying to beat a dead horse here, but can you please explain the exact process you did to verify the front driveshaft does not rotate?

You may be able to see the problem just by removing the shifter. I'm no expert here but I think there are 2 separate shift rails in the t case, one for 4wd and one for low range. Sounds like something on the shifter broke not allowing the 4wd rail to be moved.

Someone (bamatoy mostly ) correct me if I'm wrong.

I jacked the truck up all 4 wheels off the ground put in 4wd lo or hi only the back spins with hubs locked. I can spin the wheels with the hubs locked and the axles spin the pinion spins along with the front drive shaft. But as far as trying to climb anything with the shifter shifted into 4wd is like trying in the 2wd position the front end oft truck has no pulling power the front wheels do NOT turn themselves

I would check the hubs before I bought a transfer case some things fishy there.
