I'm not exactly sure how I can explain differently. The $55 one increases line pressure only. The $90 dollar one makes the transmission shift faster and harder rather than just harder like with the $55 kit.

From what I have read about the HD2 truck and Hot Rod setting in this kit is. Maybe in the truck setting 1st and 2nd shift is great and obviously noticeable, Hot rod setting may be too hard unless you like that kinda thing. 3&4 in Truck setting may be too soft or not super noticeable and great in the hot rod setting. Sooooo, would if I wanted to drill the truck size in 1&2 and hot rod in 3&4 would that work? I max my 97 out everyday. I tow a 5000lb trailer all over the front rang (Loveland to Colorado Springs) in Colorado and want 3rd and 4th hard and fast. I often sit in traffic so I want 1&2 to be smoother.

You should not be towing in overdrive to begin with

Hahaha! Your right, and I don’t tow in over drive. I’m not entirely clear on how an auto trans works, but Transgo has said that this kit will help significantly when towing even with over drive off.

With overdrive off it doesn't shift into 4th gear so you won't notice

After a few years with this kit I'd avoid the hotrod setting on 1st to 2nd. You can always drill out smaller and work from there. Easy to take more off but hard to put it back.

I'm not so sure about doing different hole sizes. I'd start with more moderate tune and go up from there if your trans temps are still too high, but even then you may wanna consider a larger transmission cooler if temps are an issue.
