As long as the Manufacturer relies on the dealership for inspection work, the results will never be good and the manufacturer could care less.. Same thing as a certified vehicle. More paperwork at the dealership with a bunch of boxes being checked. Technicians never ever do certified vehicle inspections, if they did they would starve to death for the pay they receive which is the same as PDI. Its a complete sham. The system is broken and techs are rewarded for falsifying documents in order to get to the profitable work.

After reading all of this, here are a couple of questions. What happened to the fill tube idea? Does the Taco tow package cooler work the same on a manual transmission?

New to the site, thought I'd drop my first comment/question here.

Being that the tow package is now standard on all V6 models, is it possible we could see a more normalized and proper AT fluid fill from factory? Maybe it makes sense now that there's just a standard volume to set to these filling machines for all V6 Taco's going through the line.

In the end, one can only hope!

Just got my truck back from the dealer. Turns out i was 1/2 quart low. Not much, but they topped it off. Took 3 trips to a dealership, and then going to a different one to have it checked.
Truck is a 17 and i purchased it in august of 17. Dealer told me only the 16s had this issue.

It was very hard to get dealer to check fluids manually but they did and it happen to be one quart low. After repeated calls to Toyota complaining about it they finally offered me the platinum warranty for free.

Just be persistent and don’t take no for an answer. Like I said it wasn’t easy and it was time consuming about 5-6 calls through a two month process.

I’m not close to a dealer so I called the service manager and set my appt up to get a few things checked/ taken care of all at once. He said great and understandable so it went in last Wed for...

Tranny hanging in gear and clunk going into drive after reversing. (Asked them to check fluid manually to see if it was full and make sure it had most current update)

The hood flutter. All the adhesive points on the bracing underneath were detached.

    Rear diff whine.

    Leaf spring squeak.

And vibe from 10-30 mph. (Axle wrap?) Started with just ~400 miles on it.

After a WEEK, today I was told that they only did the hood!! They said because my truck is lifted that the vibe is due to angles. I said that’s reasonable, no big deal...even though it was doing t before the lift, I’ll do axle shims and see what happens. Then I asked, what about the other 4 things, what about everything else? He tried to tell me that they didn’t bother with the diff because the whine could be caused by my lift, didn’t bother with the transmission because my lift and “bigger tires” could be causing it to shift erratically and clunk, and didn’t bother doing the leaf spring tsb either because they weren’t “Toyota leaves.” They’re trying to scumbag me when I have just an ome 2” and an add a leaf. I told him we’re not going this route and I needed to be treated fairly and that all of these are known issues, and all of them were happening before the lift which was put on just 200 miles ago. He said ok well give me one more day with it and I’ll see if I can get things going..I’m trying to remain calm, but I’m ready to get busy making them lose some business. This is all happening to my 2017 with just 1600 easy miles on it.

I'm not on the dealership's side at all, but you have to look at it from their perspective too. Once you modify anything that could have the slightest chance of causing a problem, they are going to tell you exactly what they told you. The dealership is always going to try their hardest to not fix anything for free. Bigger tires are heavier and that will cause the truck to shift differently since these Tacomas have zero torque. Adding aftermarket leaf springs, then asking to fix a squeak in the stock springs is never going to fly with a dealership.

Understood and that rationale would be fine if these issues weren’t known problems across the board with these trucks, and if they didn’t start before the lift but they are, and they did. It’s absolutely ludicrous. They’ll be dealing with a situation they def don’t want to be dealing with if I don’t start getting treated fairly. That’s something I can guarantee.

Just got off the phone with toyota corporate... Had my tranny fluid topped of a few days ago (only 1/2 quart low). Called Toyota corporate yesterday for the first time to address my concerns with having slightly low fluid for 7000 miles with all the weight i have. They told me they would call me back this morning. They did, and they are giving me an extended warranty. 100,000 mile power train and electronic warranty. Easiest fight I've had. I know some people are having a hard time with this issue, but my faith is restored in toyota. Keep fighting and pushing for the extended warranty. Its their fault after all that you bought a $35,000 truck that they forgot to build properly.

My issue is like everyone else I suspect the ATF is low in my 17 TRD OR that has 6 k on it. I have read up and plan to check the ATF myself since the dealer won't check or says they check but the overflow bolt paint hasn't been cracked. My questions is, with the tow package, I have read you need to pin open the thermostat before conducting the fluid check. Is this correct? If so, can someone explain or have a picture as to exactly where on the tranny it is located? Thanks in advance.
