    How long is the slip from R to D when cold supposed to be? It's been in the 30s most mornings and when I shift into drive from reverse it takes about 2 seconds for it to shift in. Then sometimes when taking off it will slip on the next gear change or two. Other than that I haven't noticed anything on hills or corners or in warm temperatures

    Took to dealer on Wed for same problem. They said it was normal..I asked them to write that in the corrective action on service sheet. They decided to keep it overnight, let it cool down to proper temp to check fluid...It was a quart low. I haven't done a morning ops check yet.

    Yea I had to get mine checked two times. First check it was .75 quarts low and I still got the lag or slip (it was a lot less though). So I had them check it again and they found out it was about 1/2 quarts low. So far I have not felt a lag or slip.

    Took me a while to find the explanation when we had issues with the 2nd gen truck but here it is
    The reason for no dipstick is that the car builders want you to believe that you don’t need to check or maintain the fluid. Many of them actually say that the fluid they use is good for the life of the vehicle.This ofcourse is simply not true
    This was the explanation Toyota used when they started installing the 5 speed automatics without a dipstick in the tundras and Tacomas . I am sure someone will eventually find the same information for the 2016 model AC60 transmission

    They say the overflow plug is more accurate . I think I could probably have a good argument with Toyota about this . At least with a fill tube , it gets checked on a regular basis

    Its in the works I believe . I will do some hunting and get back to you guys about an aftermarket filler tube with level indicator .
    If memory serves me correctly , a company by the name of Tech Pack who make aftermarket filler tubes for other transmissions are on this .

    Wishing you guys luck . I know I would love a filler tube .
    There are a couple other companies that make the filler tubes as well but I always used these guys .
    There products were reliable and easily sourced . I kept that company busy for 20 years and I am sure other transmission shops used them just as much .

    Here's to add to this super long thread.
    Been a old school Chevy guy for a while. 350's, 454's, TH350, TH400. My old man and I, work our way through no problem.
    Reading this thread made me paranoid about my new Tacoma...

    After a LOT of talking with a srvc writer, srvc, mngr, and a tech, we discovered I was 3/4qt low.. Maybe not a lot to write home, but possibly allowing the valve body to suck up a little air when atf temps were cold and the fluid hadn't expanded... Could be the cold start/ slip issue.

    The process was a little involved, but after the atf temp dropped from 186 to 112, took maybe 20 minutes from check, to fill, to recheck.
    Get a good service department, explain yourself thoroughly, and see if you can get it checked.
