Took mine in today. Quart low. Had it not been for this thread and Tacoma World, I woulda never known. Toyota needs to rectify this . . . and quick.

To be honest,I dont think I have any issues, but have not had it checked yet [1700 miles]. Now I bring up
my truck wants to lurch forward when cold pulling out of the garage and when hot backing in. Is that a concern?
Other than that, I love my truck.

I got a 2016 TRD as a rental. I drove it off the lot with only 4 miles on it. After couple horrible shifts I called them up and they told me to bring it in for more tranny fluid. It runs perfectly right now. I have also only put 4,000 miles on it haha

    Thank you GearCruncher,

5-9-2016 - Called to complain with Case Number
5-10-2016 - Scheduled appointment at 9AM, spoke to advisor, explain situation. He stated it is common. He didnt need to see my case number from Corporate. He called me at 3pm stating that they need to keep the vehicle overnight for proper inspection. I asked if the ATF was low he stated Yes.

Now it is a waiting game.

My truck is a San Antonio build and was .5 quart low. I know that isn't as much as some. Thanks to all of the info here in this thread, and other threads on TW, I was able to negotiate the dealership checking the tranny fluid. The information all of you provided helped me to watch out for some potential red flags while on my test drives.

update: got the truck back today. Tech says the transmission fluid was a "little low" and drain it and filled it.

Well, I'm picking up my 2016 DCTRDORSB 4x4 with tow package tomorrow from Big Two Toyota in Chandler, AZ. I emailed my sales guy saying that I would like the following checked before I sign for my truck:

    1. ATF fluid level (manually via temp check mode w/thermometer pinned)
    2. Front and Rear Differential fluid level check
    3. Transfer Case fluid level check
    4. Drive Line U-Joint lubrication (all zerks greased)
    5. Rear Axel U-Bolt torque check

He called me back and told me that all of these things are always checked by them during their PDI and that my list sounds like their checklist. He also said that he "doesn't know what blogs I've been reading but it sounds like they've been dealing with don't do their jobs" so I guess we'll see. I will be ecstatic if they actually do everything correctly but I won't hold my breath and I'm gonna get a detailed report of what they 'did' so if I check it myself and see they didn't I can go back and throw it in their faces (And take it to corporate).

Wish me luck boys and girls!

Update on my my case... I was a quart low and informed corporate about the results from the technician. They asked what I wanted to do about it; I told them I wanted my first payment back for having to take it to multiple dealers to finally have it done properly, and I wanted an extended warranty. Corporate called me back yesterday and said they were giving me a platinum warranty for 100k miles and that was it. I was kind of upset I didn't get what I exactly wanted but it's better than nothing.

Ok everyone, Aside from the annoyance and potential damage resulting from the transmission fluid being low on your brand new truck, did filling the trans to the proper levels actually resolve any issues you were having?

Mine was 3/4 quart low, but topping it off at less than 500 miles did nothing for the delayed engagement between Reverse and Drive.

Lots of noise about low trans fluid, but not a lot of information about whether it is the cause of one of the major issues...the delay.

    Did they reset your memory?
Fwiw there is a max time allotted for the n-r or n-d shift; 1.2 seconds for one 1.5 seconds for the other. I forget which is which...

Mine WAS 3/4 low as well... Did not notice any "major" issues with it that way... the only thing I noticed was the delayed shift back up to 5/6 when in cruise and going over a hill... (I had to hit the gas pedal to get it to shift back up)... after adding 3/4 liter... it does NOT do that anymore...

Checked mine today and it more or less was good. I followed the procedure and opened it when it was at temp, dropped the approx. 5cc that Toyotas manual mentions it might. After that nothing. Started adding fluid and got to just under .25 qt added before it started to steadily stream out. It ended up pouring almost all of what I put in before it became a steady drip. Basically it was probably already good and had I waited a moment or two longer for it to keep heating it would have came out before I had added any. Oh well, good peace of mind.

Truck was built in Mexico, 5/16.

Also worth mentioning I have a vibe on decel from 25 to 10 mph, approx. 1 second delay from R to D, and trans feels like it holding gears to slow vehicle under 15 mph. Truck has 200 miles on it.

I too was refused the extended warranty, the explanation given was the engineer felt a quart low of ATF was within the specs range.Makes me wonder if they are starting to play hardball and not giving out anymore extended warranty's.Maybe it's time for a collective class action law suit.
