So we picked up our truck (Mexico factory) yesterday (6/16). After I'd emailed our sales guy again before (6/15), and basically told him that I was taking his word as good and if he said they'll check it correctly then I'll take his word for it. He then emailed back saying he'd talk to his service guy and make sure he addressed my concerns. So far it feels great and extremely smooth. No unusual pause between R/D, no slipping or clunks, a little too precise on the mph when on cruise but I've experienced that in many Toyotas before. Will update when I have a chance to actually check it out myself.

I am rather concerned about this issue however I do not feel that I have had any build problems in my truck. I have 4500 miles on my truck currently and have not noticed any crazy lag issues going from reverse to drive or from drive to reverse. Since I have to take my truck in for it's servicing here soon, do you all think they will check the ATF and u bolts for free? I understand if it is correct than they charge me for labor but I am wondering if they are going to use integrity when checking it or if they will lie to me. I mean how hard is it to check the front floor mat for spec?

Just for the record I just greased my u-joints yesterday... THEY DEFINITELY NEEDED IT.

Nothing fancy, yet. Weathertech mats front/back + their mud guards, some reflective striping and custom carpets on the storage bin lids underneath the jump seats.
I think it's goofy that every single service interval's 1st point of inspection is the driver's side floor mat.
That'd be a neat trick on my truck. It didn't come with one.
Although I did install a set of WeatherTech mats myself.
    =)

Update: It has been 1000 miles since adding a quart of trans. fluid. Trans does shift a little better however I still have a lag engagement. Serious thinking of dumping the truck for the Ridgeline. I will just wait to see the issues with them.

So I'm at 1500 miles on my Truck that was built at the Mexico factory 5/16. I don't have the reverse to drive or park to drive hesitation problem, no clunking, but it stays in a lower gear to long after down shifting to get up a hill after it flattens out again. Sometimes I have to let off the gas to get it to shift. Other than that, no issues.
Is there any body on here in the San Diego area that knows of a dealer that has knowledge of the transmission problems that is sympathetic to it. It would be nice to get a dealer in my area to check the fluid level without having to call corporate first.

After reading this thread I had the dealer check out the fluid a couple days after purchase, come to find out they just ran it through the techstream and told me it was good. I complained in a post service survey that I didn't think it was checked correctly so yesterday they called me and I dropped my truck there over night. Turns out it was 1 qt low. There were absolutely no signs that anything was wrong with the truck, nothing like what has been reported here. Regardless, I urge everyone to have it checked even if you think it's fine. There's nothing like peace of mind!

UPDATE: I called Toyota and got a case number opened. When I called Toyota Carlsbad I spoke to the service manager and explained the situation I told her I had opened a case number. She was very helpful and scheduled the appointment with no fuss and even explained how the ATF check would be done without me asking and it was the appropriate manual check.
    IT WAS 1.5 QUARTS LOW
When I got it back and brought it home I checked the plugs on the transmission and there was residue from the fluid so I know it was done. My Truck was built in Mexico on 5/16.

On A side note for those interested, I had the front and rear diff checked too as well as the U Joints. They were all fine.
My U bolts needed a 1/4 to 1/2 turn each at the 52ft/pd factory spec.

The poll is closing in 10 days . Thats not saying the thread is closing , just the poll .
There are still members posting their findings and most are still low on fluid built May 2016 .
Reports are coming in that the low fluid issue has been corrected at the factory with the trucks built in June of 2016 but no evidence of this has yet to be documented .
182 trucks low on transmission fluid from December 2016-July 2016 as reported by TW members in the poll
The 4x4 pdf file has been downloaded 1,121 times
The 2x2 pdf file has been downloaded 496 times
Still no technical service bulletin and no computer flash
I will leave it open to you guys to determine if the poll should be closed . I will see if we can get an extension if you would like the poll to remain open .
    Thoughts ?

As long as the results are still visible, I see no reason to keep it open.
Based upon those polled, the odds are in favor of the fluid being low on trucks built before June 2016.
That's enough to encourage owners of that production range to check or have theirs checked to be sure.

I'd like the poll to stay active till Toyota actually starts to FILL these damn things...!! All we need is 4 or 5 "actual" physical checks made and proven to tell ME that Toyota has, in fact addressed this issue...

My vote... Keep the poll open....

AND... Thank you Gearcruncher for all you help and guidance on this issue... You might have saved MY tranny...!!

    :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:To you:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I completely agree. Might as well keep the poll active until Toyota takes action. A big thanks to Gearcruncher as well. I would of never checked/known my level was low if it wasn't for this thread/forum. Thank you!

IMHO, this thread should be tacked in the 3rd gen forum and poll left open.

I don't see why not. Part of the service includes checking and tightening "chassis bolts" and checking fluids. Just tell them your concerns about these 2 things and just ask them to specifically check them.

Most dealers are apparently bullshitting you when you ask for a fluid check.

Either not done at all or done half assed.

Perhaps not well worded - if it needs trans fluid. The problems have been very few and far between. For example, I have no faith that they will suddenly reproduce themselves at the dealers, who, by the way, has always been very straight with me. Let's leave it for the moment (unless I should call corporate first - this site seemed to imply I should do that if I continued to have problems with a known full trans - maybe I misread...). If it doesn't need fluid, I will definitely be calling them as there would be no explanation for why the trans acted up the few times it has. On the other hand, it shouldn't do any of that stuff, ever. My old 1992 GMC P/U has 226,000 miles and never a problem with the trans. The question is when to call.

I went and had the fluids checked in my truck last Friday. The dealer noted that the transmission did take a small amount of fluid but it started overflowing very quickly. Either way, the truck feels like it is shifting better than it did before but perhaps that is in my head. The dealer found both diffs to be full on my truck, which was built in Mexico.

    Low transmission fluid level

Check my other post linked. TL;DR just had a conversation with a different dealer's service manager. He reported that he wasn't seeing under-filling, he was seeing leaking INTO the transfer case.

Had a look at the post. Is there some way to check the transfer case other than tearing things apart? A slow leak into the transfer case might explain why it takes so long (in some cases) to show up symptomatically. Has anyone else heard of this being a possibility? One assumes that if a dealer somewhere is finding this, they would have had a word with Toyota about it.
