For the record....the transmissions all come from the same supplier. So the final assembly point (Texas or Mexico) is not important

I assumed the separate choices in the poll were due to the assumption that the transmission was filled with fluid at the final assembly plant. Do you know that they're filled from the supplier?

Typically, this is not the case. For manual trannys, tcases, and solid axles, yes. However, with an auto trans, the tranny cooler, lines and fittings are installed at the final assembly plant, and once tightened, fluid can be added. I have spent many years at many oems' final assembly plants and this was always the case. I was a powertrain warranty engineer for a very long time (lol). Also in the case of the suppliers, they place (connect) special hydraulic plumbing connections to fill each unit with oil, and test buck each for function (and leaks). They then drain them and move them to dunnage for shipment.

I am definitely concerned here from what I see of the larger picture regarding the oil as I just picked up my SR v6 auto 4x4 quad short just last week. This is my first foray into a foreign made pickup truck. Love it so far. More to come I guess.

The reason we put Mexico and San Antonio plants in the poll back in 2016 was an effort in trying to determine which factory was sending out the transmissions low on fluid . The poll indicates that both plants are involved in the issue .
I am sure Toyota knows about the issue from our members here at Tacoma World making calls to corporate , but I do not beleive Toyota has rectified it yet .
If Toyota releases a TSB for the problem , I can close this poll
We need more members with 2018 / 2019 trucks giving us there findings .

2019 here... had rough shifts with a cold engine. Took it to dealer to look into in addition to another minor issue (window seal loose). Suspected low fluid as I had another vehicle prior do this. Said they could not duplicate...no $hit, I said it did it when it was cold and I just drove 9 miles to the dealer. The said couldn’t do anything about it and sent me on my way.

I bought a quart and did the procedure I found on the forum that someone posted with the check mode by jumping the obd and the shifter and the overflow bolt. It took 3/4 of a quart and hasn’t had the rough upshift since.

first dealer told me “that’s a sealed unit” lmfao. Salesman said that , service tech manager said that, they definitely weren’t checking it.
When I went to a different dealer and told them my first dealer refused to check it the man said”oh really, bring it in tomorrow and let’s get it checked”. Never made me replicate anything. In fact they told me they had a lot come through with barely any fluid in them. They manually checked it and gave me a rental. Needless to say the first dealer lost my business. That being said it’s really not hard to do. There are great write ups on here about it and I can also message you the service manual if you’re interested.

Got the 17 Sport at the dealer as we speak. Dropped it off last night so that they can a full fluid check, got a call early this morning saying that "it's a sealed unit but we'll perform a diagnostic to determine." I insisted so we'll see what happens...

    Is it something I said?
Well I just got my Taco back and guess what?! They actually checked the tranny fluid and put in "about a pint" and did the TSB 0058-18. I guess when you call them on their BS about the tranny being sealed and start dropping TSB #'s from memory they get intimidated?

I can hear the service manager now "damn it yeah go on and ACTUALLY check the fluid on this one, he's been on TW and he'll be back IF we don't"

    Thank you TW

Also slipped going 1st to 2nd and I noticed would also not shift into 5th and 6th. Dealer said low a quart of trans fluid. Just saw thread and doing my part. I will seek extended warranty.

I've been hearing the metal clunk for a while now, told the dealer of course got the "we couldn't replicate it" speech. They did add some fluid but it's still doing it, not sure what it is

I just return from dealership, DCOR 2018 built in Texas and was 1liter/1.05qt low...

I should have search for this issue before, it shift way better now but my truck is at 23000km, I hope the transmission has not been badly damage.

Just checked mine, 250ml low. Under 10,000km on odo. Shifts a bit smoother from cold and from Park/Rev. did it for piece of mind.

Getting ready to check ATF fluid on my brand new 2019 Tacoma SR5. after reading the procedure here and from this link the temp range seems to differ. it states the temperature range is 95 degrees - 113 degrees in this guide as the temp when the D illuminates solid, and above 113 degrees when it starts to blink. figured I'd post incase someone does this procedure without using the Temp Check mode and uses a scangauge tool or some other method of reading the ATF fluid Temps.

Just performed this Check on my brand new 2019 SR5, fluid level was perfect. At least I know it was checked, gives me peace of mind now that I performed the check and makes me feel better about who was checking my vehicle now.

Just another data point, I checked my recently purchased 2019 SR5, built in TX, and it was about 3/4 quart low. I noticed a huge different in the reduction of time it took to shift into gear from park. Thanks for the tip!
