Just checked mine using the jumper method.
    3/4 quart low, Baja, 9-15
    Took about an hour.
    Marginal improvement; feels tighter.
    R-D shift is much improved.

Previous trip to dealer, they only checked for codes/updates.
Did the whole corporate song and dance...
Dealer could not guarantee fluid would be checked if symptoms could not be replicated.

Just came from the dealer for my friends '16. He talked with the asst service manager, told him what was happening with the shift from park to drive on cold nights/mornings. They hooked it up to their computer, no problems, but decided to do a manual check. They charged him for two quarts, so it was low 1 for sure, and maybe a partial bottle. He has the TRD OR 4x4 w/tow package.

So I apologize but I spent the last hour reading these threads and am a bit lost. I have a 16 OR w/ Tow built in Mexico, no signs of low fluid, maybe excessive shifting between gears 4-6. I have noticed on long drives I will hit 6th gear for ~30-60 minutes but then it just stays in 5th on flat roads. Has anyone taken pictures of which bolts are the over flow and the drain? Also, what is the jumper method to make sure you're in the proper temperature range? Can I do that without any special tools? I'm an automotive noob here and the dealership is over 200 miles away.. a long way to go for them not do anything since I don't have symptoms. Sorry if it's been posted but I've looked through a few threads and I'm having information overload at the moment.

Hello everyone! Purchased my 2016 on December 5th... and have never felt quite right about the way the transmission behaves, when it's even slightly cold. Especially going from reverse to drive. Massive hesitation, (1-2 seconds can be allot when other vehicles are closing in) followed by a "surge" in power then off I go. Also it hesitates pretty badly when I stomp on it... Followed by the rpms "hanging up" even after I've let off :/ Thankfully I found you guys!!! So after reading all the information on this site/thread, Im pretty sure it's low on transmission fluid. Have already been there and they told me it was "normal" but that Toyota was aware of the "normal" issue wtf!!. Needless to say, I have an appointment at my dealership tomorrow morning and they better check it right! I was quite the pain in their assess back when I bought the truck, so hopefully that will work in my favor! Not this guy again...lol! I absolutely LOVE my Tacoma, (my 3rd taco)I just want it to be right!

I purchased my TRD Sport 4x4 w/ tow package, vin starts with a 3, back in late January and my transmission has been fine until this weekend. I have about 1200 miles on the odo and I am experiencing the same shift delay from R-D when running cold. At my earliest convenience I am dropping off at the dealer with some other issues and will report back.

Hahhah!! After 3 hours at the dealership, come to find out my transmission was 1.25 quarts low! Lucky the mechanic just done one with the same issue. The service manager was trying to push me to take a ride with a mechanic and try and replicate the problem. However when he called back, he found out that the mechanic had known about the problem (tsb) and to send it right back, so I got to avoid the ride along with one of the mechanics :) thank goodness for his prior knowledge! Will do another update after a cold start.

Yes! Transmission hanging up from reverse to drive..1-2 second delay followed by a surge in power, then off I go. Also when id stomp on it the rpms would "hang" even after I let off. To me it seemed like it slipped in that instance...and that only happened once! So far so good after the trip to the dealership :)

Whats shitty about the whole thing is that the mechanic knew about the TSB but the service writer did not...go figure

Did Toyota recently release a new TSB ?
Only one I know of is for the 4 cylinder slipping into 3rd gear .
    Technical service bulletins
4 cylinder truck slips while upshifting to 3rd gear http://toyosolutions.com/index.php?...-intermittent-2nd-3rd-gear-up-shift-flare.96/

The dreaded TSB quote begins again:lalala:
I see we are now up to 52 trucks confirmed low on fluid and both assembly plants are under filling according to the poll
Lets see if we can beat the poll for the 2nd gen trucks that showed 75 % in favor of low fluid:cool:

That is what the mechanic that fixed my truck told my service writer... without the mechanic's knowledge of what he said was a tsb, the service writer was going to make me take a mechanic for a ride along and try and recreate the issues. When he called for a mechanic to come do a ride along that is when the mechanic told him he already fixed two of them and to send my truck back because as he said "there was a Tsb on the issue" I don't know why he would have said that to me if there wasn't a TSB... who knows we will see in the morning...:) I also called corporate before I went in and complained about the issue:)

If there is a TSB recently released , I can almost guarantee its because of you guys following through with your complaints to corporate .
Great job guys if its true !!!! If it is true , I think this will be one of the first TSB,s released because of all the members at Tacoma World getting together and fighting the dealerships / Toyota . Got my fingers crossed
Can anyone reading hack into the Toyota website to see if there is any news on a new TSB ? Please post it up so we can celebrate a victory
