Transmission 2016-2023- 6 SPEED AUTOMATICS COULD BE LOW ON FLUID DIRECTLY FROM FACTORY

Tacoma world is the reason I went after my transmission issue so aggressively! That and I just knew something was wrong! So thank you all!!! I will be calling my service advisor first thing in the morning to get that TSB number, if there is one! if not I'm giving him the full Stinkfist!!!!!

O.k. so there is no TSB for the Toyota Tacoma transmission as of yet.... which really pisses me off!!! the mechanic who worked on mine said that there was, and because off that misinformation it really makes him and me look like a damn stool sample! Grrr!! just talked to Toyota corporate for about an hour and what they said was complaining to your dealership really does nothing to escalate the situation towards a TSB... what you need to do is call corporate. that's where the ball gets rolling from! By the way, I am fighting for a brand new transmission in my truck because after they put 1.25 quarts of transmission fluid in the truck have I noticed no change in the behavior of it! Makes me wonder if in the three months and almost 4,000 miles that I've been driving it, the damages that have been caused inside the transmission cannot be rectified by simply correcting the fluid level!? :/ I didn't spend $40,000 on a truck thats potentially unsafe for me and my family! I won't stop until I get a new transmission.

 

Probably saving a crap load of money at the factory by under filling and then shifting that to the dealer on delivery. I'd demand a lifetime transmission warranty if they have to top off even a small amount of fluid. It means they screwed up both at the factory and on delivery. Can't see how Toyota could weasel out of that one. There is no telling what kind of damage has been done already to some of these trucks.

Yes , Toyota uses ITS technology . Not all of it is used in the new Tacoma,s but pretty close .
When we remove our foot from the accelerator pedal , the injectors turn off and the truck slows down . Programming in the pcm tells the transmission to downshift whenever you take your foot off the gas

No. The tech I was reading about, uses navigation-GPS info to help control the transmission.

So do you recommend calling Toyota corporate before going to the dealer to have the level checked or after to find out level is low assuming the dealership does it right?

I did not pin the thermostat when I did my check.
Mine was 1-1/8 quarts low; pretty much in-line with everyone else...
With and without tow package difference is .6 quarts
If we assume it's the cooling system not getting filled, can we also assume pinning the thermostat is unnecessary?

 

Ill be picking up my 2016 dcsb sport 2wd with tow either thursday/friday or sunday. It may not be the most "ethical to me" option but I intend to bet them the cost of the check to give me peace of mind on my 40k purchase and if its low they will cover the cost. I will provide results when it comes and try and be as thorough as I can. I will bringing the the TSB 0079-15 and the procedure to manually check the transmission fluid.

I will be going to earnhardt in pheonix/mesa if anyone has had experience with their service dept. please let me know about it.

 

I know the fill instructions dont mention pinning the thermostat as its something that should have been done at the factory .
With the thermostat pinned open , the air cooler gets filled with fluid
If in fact the thermostat was NOT pinned at the factory , there is no way to guarantee your external air cooler is filled with oil .
This means some of you could be driving around with no oil in the air cooler . That thermostat only opens when the transmission gets very hot .
Members who are going to the dealer to get their transmission fluid level topped off are indicating that the technician does pin the thermostat .
With this said , I believe the fill procedure is incorrect

 

What would be the difference in fluid, roughly?

 

Its not a big air cooler . Possibly 1/4 of a quart if the air cooler is empty .

 

What would be the difference in fluid be between, adjusting at 95 degrees vs closer to 113 degrees?

 

I doubt you would see any difference between those ranges of temp . Transmission fluid expands as heat increases but 95 -113 isnt enough heat variance to get a different fluid level reading .
If you are trying to justify that your fluid is full without pinning the thermostat ?
In my opinion , you could still be about 1/4 of a quart low if you didnt pin the thermostat .
Now if you took your truck for a long hot drive or did some towing , the thermostat could have opened and filled the air cooler .
With this mentioned , it is possible your air cooler is filled

 

Thank you GC for the answers and also for SplitBolt for bringing up some of my exact questions. One of the questions I have also about pinning the thermostat open while checking the fluid level is what stops the tranny cooler from traveling right back down the hoses and into the pan essentially emptying that fluid as the pan see's it as an overflow. Or does the pan have that extra amount of room built in?
