I currently own a 2006 Tacoma double cab. I was wondering if anyone has ever noticed something weird with the trans. Sometimes when I come to a complete stop, like at red light for example, after about 3 to 5 seconds you can feel a bump coming from the trans. This doesn't happen all the time, only sometimes, but it worries me regardless. Any ideals and thanks.

Mine too '08. Also it feels like when I let off the gas the engine/transmission starts braking on it's own? If I shift into N it stops??? HELP! Think I'm doing a tranny service real soon, just turned 50K.

It can be one of 2 things. First, the tranny doesnt shift into first gear, until the vehicle is stopped for a few seconds. Or, it could be Axel Wrap.

My '06 has done that from the beginning.... I think it's just the tranny downshifting to first gear... Not to worry

My truck an 07 and sometime at a red light stop and go first gear sticks and then it'll shift. Do you think flushing the tranny and lining the slip yoke will help fix this

Weird...I've never experienced this problem but i have aal's, keep the zerks greased, and slowly come to a stop. Do you guys that are haveing this issue come up to a stop light/sign fairly fast before hitting the brake pedal?

I've noticed mine does this from time to time as well. I also noticed sometimes if I come to a stop and it does this little lurch thing that when I go to start again I'll also get a little bump/thud feeling like something is moving around that shouldn't be in the drive train. I've also noticed that it's doing it more now that the temperature is getting hotter

My Tacoma is fairly new to me (owned it about a month, bought it "certified-used" so it has a decent warranty still)

I've got an appointment Monday at the dealer to look at the rear leaf springs that are making the squeak noises as well as creaking noises all of a sudden. (You can see where someone sprayed them down with white lithium grease in the past) I have a list of things to bring up for them to look into, this problem is one of them.

Ive had several tacos and most of them do that, it axle wrap, or more simply put "tension" in the driveline "relaxing" when you stop. It feels kinda like a small bump forward. Normal for the taco.

I am inclined to agree with chris4X4 and graywolf2011, that what you are feeling is axle wrap as it tensions and relaxes. This is largely the result of weak rear leaf springs, something all Tacomas(first and second generation) are noted for.

Yeah mine does it to and I have under 8K miles on it....

(im not sure its the same. does it sound as if you have a box or something in the bed that suddenly moves to the front of the bed and hits the cabin. That's how i feel it at least)

Mine does it in the first 5-10 minutes of operation. Driving down the street at 30mph, it'll "clunk" .. usually when I let off the gas. I don't hear it .. I feel it. It'll happen maybe 1 or 2 times in that first 5-10 minutes, and then that's it.

On my 98 Tacoma, it felt like a small bump, with a barely audible thumping sound. It was the axle wrapping and unwrapping.

You can probably see the axle move(rotate) if you do a power brake (hold brake down and accelerate while in gear) and let off the accelerator. Have someone watch the axle, while you operate throttle.

    Beavis0076,

Yes, it would seem that all of those vehicles have weak rear springs.
