Thanks that's a big help - we just got it in the garage. It came from a Lexus SC400. Putting in a 2000 1st gen.

    Hello Folks,

I went wheeling yesterday on a hard trail, where I had to make multiple attempts to complete a couple of climbs. It was also hot outside. Probably in the 80's.
Now I hear different sounds (frequencies?) in reverse and neutral. It even sounds different at idle. Kind of a weird rumbly or grumbly sound.

I'm worried I overheated my trans. I can't tell if the fluid smells burned or not, and it doesn't look particularly dark. It was just changed at 60k and I now have about 62k on it.
My mechanic did use T-V instead of WS, so that could be an issue.

I'd appreciate any knowledge you guys can share. Thanks!

You ever get this fixed? I just had a similar thing happen to me. Sound has changed after wheeling. Sounds almost like a supercharger in 2wd and 4wd on acceleration. Nothing in idle though.

It was a skid plate that was rubbing the transfer case.

Reviving a oldie..... my question is in regards to the compatibility of a340 options. I recently purchased a MINT Low mile 03 DC AUTO V6 Tacoma PRERUNNER. Plan is to go RF1A dualcase 4x4 conversion. In the hunt for parts I'm good in the dualcase area. But it's the transmission options where I'm lost.... to stay auto would I have to find a 03-04 4x4 tacoma auto trans with ecu due to the DBW? What about 01-02 4x4 4runner auto trans and ecu? Anything else I would need in the auto trans dept. for the conversion To 4x4. Any help would be greatly appreciated.... thanks
