Hi all, I am a complete novice but I am struggling to find information about the transmission check plug.

I took my truck in to a drive through oil change shop, I always go to Toyota for my maintenance but I’ve been very busy and said whatever.

they checked my trans fluid, showed me, changed my engine oil. All good.

I drove home (about 15km). Parked it, woke up to grab something from my truck and about half of a litre was on the ground dripping from the transmission, plug missing. I called and sent a pic to the shop and they said it was the check plug and that they apologize and they will send a guy out to fix, flush, and fill. I told them when they flush I want a sample of the fluid .

my concern is, how much fluid truly is allowed to flow out of the check plug, is the transmission damaged? No codes were thrown and truck drove normally.

I just want to know if I should make a big stink, do I get it towed and have my truck looked at professionally, or is it a common mistake?
    Thanks

Lots of people mess up the trans check on these trucks. Bottom line is driving it around a bit low isnt a huge deal. If it were low enough you would actually feel it, and in an extreme case I think its sets a code for solenoid issues or something like that.

There are a few threads about 2nd gens on here, this is one of them.

Bottom line, truck has to be running, on level ground, and in 'temp check' mode to verify the transmission is within the correct temp range. At that point you pull the check plug and let any excess drain out until its just a trickle. If they offer to refill it and check it using the proper procedure Id say you're all set. In theory the dealer will use a scanner to check the temp and should be familiar with the procedure.

Have them top it off and pay to have the dealer flush properly.
