So I've had my Tacoma for about a month now and I've noticed this "clank" ever since I got it. It seems to only happen when I reverse out of my driveway/parking spot, then I drive forward and it'll get to about 15 mph. I'll let off the gas (for a stop sign) and there's a small clank. It doesn't seem like a big deal or a problem, I'm just curious what it is.

    Am I crazy?

Is it when you hit the brakes?

No, it seems to be when I let off the gas pedal

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Might be the tranny down shifting.

If you have driveline zerks on your 2013 grease them.

My 6speed does that. I also have some rattling from the transfer case area if I 'unbind' the drive line (i.e. press in the clutch pedal) and go slowly over a speed bump. Like that since new and the dealer as repeatedly said "it's normal"...

Could be the U joints. While you're greasing the zerks check for play in the drive shaft. Had one go out at 50k, made a clunk sounds from reverse to drive because of the a bad u joint and it taking up slack.

Yeah its and automatic, seems like I'm just into 3rd gear when it does it but I can't be sure if it's up or downshifting. I do have some grease zerks on the u-joints, so I'll try that. What kind of grease do you guys recommend? I've never done it before

I didn't feel any play at all in the driveshaft, everything felt pretty sturdy

I use synthetic blue.It will say on tube what it covers.but try to see if it is slow speed then maybe 4th gear.If it does it when you are hitting the loud pedal I would check at your local tranny shop. But I don't believe their is a problem.Mine clucks at low speeds but when. I Release The Hounds Of Hell the supercharger screams like banshee and scares the locals back to their caves.Sorry of topic.Lets us know your investigation into it.

FYI - Sometimes you won't feel play in the driveshaft with it in park and on the ground. The best way to check is with the axle off the ground and the truck in neutral. You can then spin the shaft and fell for wiggle at the joints. Chock the front wheels of course.

Just an update. I greased all the zerks on the driveshaft and it did not solve the noise.

I've mostly stopped caring because I don't think its a real issue, but I do wish I could figure out what it was

i have what i feel like is driveline slack... not really a clunk, but when letting off the gas somewhat of a jerk/slack type feeling and when i get back on it the same feeling.... not at highway speeds or low speeds, but more just mid range around town from anywhere in the 30-50 range
