So I just bought a used 2020 Tacoma 4x4 Off Road with 8000 miles on it. Seemed like a good deal but I didn’t do a thorough enough inspection when I got it from the auto broker (should have bought new).

Turns out the fan shroud is cracked, the airbox is also cracked, and the trans cooler has been crushed and pushed up a bit.

I’m determined to fix these myself but a few questions. Should I get a better transmission cooler to replace the standard cooler? And should I go ahead and upgrade my air intake to a cold air intake? I have read mixed reviews on the cold air intake and most modifications I have seen with the trans cooler is putting an additional cooler on, rather than replacing the standard cooler.

    thanks!

How would all that seemingly unrelated and random stuff be broken at only 8000 miles? Is this a salvage rebuild?

Great question. I’ve been trying to wrap my head around that as well. If you had any guesses I’m all ears.

    Welcome to TW

No you don't "need" a cold air intake as it already has one. save the money, zero gain.

trans cooler ? bigger couldn't hurt i think as you have to buy one anyways and only $10 to $20 more i think.

But how did this happen in the first place

Yeah trust me I’m just as confused as you. Because the grill / sensors has no damage. No damage on the outside of the vehicle unless they just replaced all that and decided it wasn’t worth the extra effort to fix everything else.

I’ll def get a larger cooler. I’ll post pics after the install.

Use Google and search "transmission cooler upgrade 3rd gen" way better than the built in search on TW.

If this thing is legit, all of this is covered under warranty at no cost. But with broken things like that, it raises a big red flag of a decent wreck, possibly a total and rebuild - a poor one it seems.

Headlight is wrong, there should be black around the side reflector.

Yep this one has been in a front end wreck and a decent one at that from the parts you've listed. Theyre commonly broken on good front end hits from my personal experience

check the front reinforcement bar behind the bumper and see if the nuts show signs of being messed with. Some pics of the frame and apron assembly might be good too

Bumper is wrong too, it has the air dam. The off road doesn't have an air dam.

Since the title was clean and car fax didn’t show anything, would this be considered under lemon law and I could contact the dealer?

I believe it would be under carfax since they guarentee that it hasn't been in a wreck. Youre gonna have to prove it. Not sure if just the parts are gonna qualify it. Id take more pics. What area are you located in?
