    Mostly dust and dirt.
I have a 20 Tacoma that has an external transmission cooler. My understanding is that 201/2 trucks had the cooler moved into the main radiator shroud.
Today I noticed on a 22 Tacoma that the cooler was on the outside again.
Anyone know anything about this? Or am I imagining it?

I thought the same thing but the little small cooler on the radiator is not a tranny cooler. S
I forgot what it was for though. Someone will chime in I'm sure.

Toyota simply did away with the cooler to save money because they realized that hardly anyone tows with a Tacoma. And those who do often upgrade the cooler anyway. ATF was always pushed thru the radiator (whether extra cooler or not) to heat it up to operating temp faster and also to cool it down a little bit.

The industry nomenclature is OTW(oil-to-water) cooler...vs auxiliary air cooler.
