my buddy lost his Tacoma to a fire, the only thing we could assume is that when he was towing a small trailer the fluid pushed out at the same point and landed on the exhaust... A different friend lost his chevy truck to the same thing. Would a trans cooler have prevented this, maybe, but who can be sure.

Yeah my apologies, but I wanted to post in the right thread.

Wow that's crazy. The exhaust does run very close to the filler tube and the tube as well as the fluid get super hot. I'm going to monitor that spot in the filler tube for awhile and keep checking to make sure fluid isn't leaking there

The exact same thing happened to me but I also had a leak in the pan where the tube extends out. I just ordered the Pan assembly along with the filler neck to the top and replaced it a few week back. What a PITA job that was. If it lasts another 17 years, I’m a happy camper.

Yeah I was worried about possibly developing a leak down the road where the tube comes out of the pan since theres a bit of surface rust there so I put a generous bead of JB weld around it. I probably should have just done what you did and order a new pan assembly and top half of the filler tube but I didn't. Let's hope mine and yours both last another 17 years haha!
