I've seen the write-up for the regular transmission flush. Is there one that covers the pan drop and filter cleaning by chance?

Can't help but if you have a write up for the regular drain and fill the only extra work is to unbolt the empty pan, then clean off the magnets, maybe add some extra ones (optional) and clean the filter that will be obvious when the pan is off.
Then reinstall and follow the rest of the write up

Hell, if you’re going as far as to drop the pan, might as well pull the valve body. You’ll get a bunch more fluid that way and it’s pretty easy to do.

This is new to me. I'll have to research how this is done. Unless it's covered somewhere in a write-up.

I looked in all the details of these services and when there are new parts used in services, those are listed in the details. Not once was any differential oil or transmission fluid listed in the parts section on these services. So I am pretty sure that it was never done.

I will stick to the drain and fill and then also drop the pan and clean the filter. Do I need a new gasket or anything else if I am going to drop the pan?

Yeah... about that... I am qualified to probably put a band-aid on a wound and this is more like open-heart surgery haha.

When I put the IPT valve body in my trans, I asked John (the guy in the video) about doing a full fluid change at the same time.

His words were “when you pull the valve body you get almost everything anyway. Don’t worry about that”

You need a new gasket if pan is dropped. Count bolts in the pan. There’s a 19 and a 20 bolt pan and they use different filters and gaskets. New filter is $20 just replace it.

Ok. Looks like I can get a new filter and gasket for about $25 from Autozone so I'll just do that.

It's your call, but I would source all parts/fluid from the dealer. Auto Zone sells a lot of junk.

There's a dealer near me that will do the drain and fill for about $110. So I'll ask them to do the filter/gasket as well and just have them knock that out. It's a low enough price to where I'd rather have them do it and have all the responsibility on it. I will still handle my diff and transfer case fluid changes. Those seem pretty straight-forward.

I wish! That's the one thing that's been on my mind about the future of this truck. I got it with a lot of miles for a really reasonable price. My thoughts are that if I can get another 100k out of it, I'll have gotten more than my moneys worth.

If the engine goes at that point, I will look into a engine swap like a 5.3. Heck, even the current GM 4.3s with 300 ish HP and Torque would be a really big improvement power-wise as well as efficiency. Obviously I would have to look into how something like that could match up to the existing drive-line. It may not be possible.

I have a slant on my driveway. Could I drain at 30 degree angle instead of jacking it up? Then refill what came out in same position with drain and overflow plugs in?

Finally do transmission temp check procedure on level ground and let overflow drain when at temp?

Just flush it yourself, I found it to be a very easy job.

yeah I'm afraid of what I read online for a full flush at 134000 Miles, because I believe it's never been done. I am the third owner and just bought it last year so I don't know all the history. I've heard drain and refill this is safest method in this scenario.

I've read the sticky on the full flush and would have no problem doing that. But I feel in an older transmission there may be risks associated with doing that.

@gearcruncher what are your thoughts on a flush at 134K miles?
