difference with Ford is they have shitty designs and the problems are built in.

Completely agree. It was a bit of a sales video too obviously. It seemed a little far fetched, but everything is done by a machine. I don't really care what their tolerances are, all I care about is if it works well or not. And Toyota seems to be doing a pretty darn good job.

He wasn't referring to the taco tick in that video. Some of us are having a strange unexplainable noise in our engines (it's not normal), so far Toyota has done: replaced an engine, timing cover, reflash and a slue of other repairs to try to fix the problem with no improvements or resolution. Just a heads up since you're out of the loop on this topic. Toyota still has no idea what it is.

That's kinda what I was thinking since they replaced a members engine out with a short block but still used the old timing parts and the problem is still there. I've been working on vehicles for over twenty years and the closest thing I could describe it sounding like is a GMC Envoy with a worn out trans driving around. Not quite a whine and not quite a mechanical noise.

The noise in that first video is just like mine . When listening from the front I am sure the belts and fan add some to it. But the metallic knock (not tick) is really pin pointed when you listen from right behind the front tire and kinda under the truck. It sounds to me like its coming from the rear of the engine and very well could be coming from the the tranny. That makes more sense to me due to it going away once warmed up . Idk but I have plenty of warranty left and Im just driving it for now, Ive never had a Toyota fail me yet . We'll see...

There is a WORLD of difference between Measuring Something to a millionth of an inch and Machining it to a Millionth of an inch.

OK I do believe that they measure it to millionths of an inch.

There ain't no fucking way they are machining to a millionth of an inch.

I used to electro plate high speed nickle acid (in reverse polarity) on to valve stems from EMD 645 locomotive diesel heads to the 10 thousandths (.00001) thats pretty tight tolerances seeing how if theres a 1/1000th deviation to the plating the valves would sieze inside the valve guide, a millionth tolerance is ridicules for a typical combustion engine , i mean really

.0000001 not in my world anyway...

I was unsure of it at first, but after driving it for a few months, it's really growing on me. I wanted a manual transmission partly for the simplicity of them and partly for running a crawlbox. Also a little bit of the highway part of it too. I like to choose my gear, especially on cruise.

We have some pretty good high dollar precision spindles here too, but they are not going to hold anywhere near that tolerance. I would imagine that spec would drive the tool setter out of his mind in short order. Then throw on the tool wear compensation.

Did you experience any slippage when shifting gears? Mine slips on my automatic 2014, crew, 4.0, 6 box TRD. I'm taking it I to have them look at it...

TRD Exhaust, Mobtown bolt on sliders and aluminum tailgate reinforcement, Reverse lights changed to yellow turn signals, LED pods added for reverse, ADD W1 oil catch can, Total Chaos bed reinforcement, rear diff breather to taillight mod, 12" combo led bars behind lower grill wired to high beams, Toyota led bed light kit, 400 watt anytime mod, SSO slimeline front bumper.
Might be for a different thread:
For the people with the unusual cold engine noise, is this spread evenly across transmissions or is it only on the autos?
