My vehicle is 01 2.7L with auto transmission. I pulled the pan to do a service and filter change and found what seems to me a over excessive amount of metal. The fluid is pretty dark which is why i dropped the pan in the first place. Im finding lil pieces of metal that im assuming may be gear shavings. Should i replace the filter and fluid? Please help thanks

Clean and reinstall the filter/screen, fill with new ATF and run it. Or you can do a flush using the pump of the tranny to flush it. Do not do a power flush at a shop. Only use a shop if they'll flush using the tranny pump. A search in this forum will show threads that tell how to do this.

Thanks for your response. I would never power flush anything ever i no the damage those machines can do. I have many years experience in shops but i will be first to say i do not everything haha. Not even close. Ive found myself using this forum alot lately as a second opionion type of thing. May i ask why do you recommend only cleaning the filter not replacing it? And it calls for merc 3 not ATF. Do you mean ATF or just what it cals for?
