2.7, 2012 4speed auto ... Was wondering if I need to fill from the dipstick or is there a fill plug? Also, how does the filter attach?

got some info here that may help .
You fill through the filler tube ( dipstick hole )
On most A340 series transmissions , the filter is held to the valve body with 6 bolts followed by an O-ring for the seal between the valve body and the filter . The filter is usually a steel screen that only requires removal , inspection for debris and a cleaning before you put it back in place being carefull not to cut the O-ring . A light coat of transmission fluid on the O-ring will prevent nicks or cuts as you are bolting the filter back up .

I guess posting the manual in the link isn't enough? All the info is there . Filter bolts are 55 foot pounds and pan bolts are 220 foot pounds.
edit meant to say inch pounds

I'm using OEM fluid with the change but thinking about putting in 1qt. of redline D4 ATF with it, would it be a bad idea?

Yes I think it is a bad idea. Transmissions are expensive. Just speaking for myself, I would not risk contamination. Just use the Toyota T-IV fluid, you can't go wrong with the original factory fill!

Out of curiosity, why are you thinking about adding the Redline? What are the possible benefits?

Yes. Well, maybe not 'bad', but not going to gain you anything.

Except for emergency 'top up situations' fluid changes should be all or nothing for whatever is being used. Additive packages are not the same.

Also, there's really no reason to pay the premium for a Redline fluid on our little slush boxes. While it's good stuff, it's not magic.

I have nearly 40k on a combination of Amsoil universal synthetic ATF and a quart of Lucas Stop Slip. Daily driver that gets driven hard. These transmissions are pretty tough as long as they are maintained.

hey I appreciate the help. I swear by Lucas but was scared to try it in a transmission.. I took your word for it and my transmission runs so smooth and it doesn't have that hard down shift when turning at a light .. "baby bottom smooth" and solid . I recommend this in the a340f .. I use my truck for pulling light loads and tho is just a good peace of mind ✌
