Have a 2001 with 270k miles on it. I've only had it since 262k miles and am unsure of its fluid history. I'm draining and filling the differentials, transfer case and transmission.

Is changing the trans fluid and transfer case at this point risky as far as knocking particulates loose and messing things up?

I think as long as you drain and fill you’re fine from what I’ve read. That’s what I did and I’ve been fine.

Is your tag info correct, you have a manual? If so, you don't have the same issue as automatic transmission with the whole changing the fluid situation. Just make sure you're using the correct oil (everyone has a favorite, but IMO as long as it's new, you're fine) for a manual transmission, and not ATF. The rear diff, manual transmission, and xfer case are all going to be 24mm- get yourself a good 6 sided socket and a breaker bar to free them up.

Be aware that the front diff has female hex drain and fill plugs, either 10mm or 12mm, I don't remember. So you need to get yourself a giant allen set. They are a pain to get to and open if they haven't been serviced before. Hit them with some pb blaster a few days before doing the work.

I did my manual transmission fluid change at 225,000 when i got it. Looked old. No issues with a drain and fill 13,000 miles later.
