My Tacoma has 114000 miles and bought it at 107000. Should I flush the transmission. Not sure if it’s ever been done before on it.

Start with a drain and fill. I’ve used Valvoline for the last few D&F’s. Valvoline MaxLife can be had for about 23 a gallon.

Thanks! I feel like it’s not shifting properly from 3rd to 4th I feel just a little thud but I could just be overthinking it to much thinking the transmission is going out.

These transmissions are pretty much bulletproof. A lot of tacomas have 200k-300k on the with no issues related to the transmission.
Just do a drain and fill.

The only issue that I know and had, I had the “shudder” when the transmission would shift into 5th gear at low rpm (below 2k)….i would get a vibration when giving it very small amount of throttle. A tube of “shudder fix” helped me.

Would absolutely not flush. If you'll sleep better at night drain and fill, a flush could do more harm than good. A drain/fill probably won't help anything, but probably won't hurt either.

I don't service transmissions. After 50 years of driving, I've never had one go bad and I've never seen anything that proves changing the fluid makes them last longer. Unless someone abuses the transmission or lets the fluid overheat the factory fluid will usually outlast the rest of the truck.

If your truck has the towing package with the ATF cooler.
You can pump more fluid out the coolant line hose. But it “takes more work”. (Not a lot).
That said, a drain and fill would be good. Eventually you might drop the pan and clean the magnets and filter. Or not?

You're definitely due. Mine started developing a shudder at 70k between 1000-1,500rpms going from second to third, and it was the ATF gone bad.
Whatever marketing genius decided to tell toyota techs (who then parrot the following to customers) that the fluid "will last the life of the engine" deserved to be fired.

I recently did a bunch of reading on this topic. My takeaway - every 60-80K drop the pan, clean the magnets and refill the ~4.5qt that you drained. I also recently changed the filter, but I don't think that was necessary.

I would do a drain and fill with OEM fluid, see how much better it works after a few hundred miles for the fresh fluid to work its way throughout. If you plan to keep the truck a long time, you can drop the pan and clean it out/replace the "filter" which is just a screen. Not necessary though. I did drain & fills at 60k and 90k, dropped the pan/new filter at 120k, then drain & fills at 150k and 180k. Still shifts great at 189k. Highly recommend using OEM fluid -- this service is not needed often and the OEM stuff is not that much more than the universal stuff. Good luck.

    Thank you!
I’ve been driving since 1978, never changed tranny fluid on any vehicle ever, and never had a tranny fail on any vehicle. I usually keep my vehicles for at least 200k miles, drive 45k plus per year.
