Changed the rear output seal of the transmission
i have a 04 toyota tacoma v6 3.4l 4wd with automatic transmission i just replaced the rear output seal of the transmission due to a leak dripping at the bottom of the transfercase. Theres nothing suppose to be anything in between of the transfercase and transmission and im still leaking after replacing the seal nothing looked damaged when we took the seal out. Would anybody have any ideas why it would keep leaking with a brand new seal put in?

All kinds 3 inch body lift/2 1/2 suspension lift. 31/11 1/2/15 tires All work done by myself for years. The only work performed by mechanic was fuel pumps. I also have a 90 Mustang 350 hp and I can never understand how come my Tacoma gets more respect Just got a 99 Jeep TJ that I rebuilt, and painted in the garage
See if they sell a sleeve for the shaft. You may have a groove or knick. Possible faulty install. Although you can usually see its correct. Also could be leaking behind the metal ring. Put a light coat RTV

As I understand it, you have to be very careful when mating the transfer case to the extension housing. Try to keep the transfer case shaft from resting on the bottom of the seal when mating the two together. As mentioned above, may have been a faulty install. If its driven in too far, going to leak. Not far enough, going to leak.

My guess is damage to the seal when attaching the transfer case.
