Is Royal Purple transmission fluid an acceptable replacement for Dexron II? Do I need to somehow clean the transmission before adding the Royal Purple?

If your going to replace with Royal Purple, you should do a full flush first. Royal Purple is great stuff. Just make sure it's equivalent to the manufacturers specs. I don't remember what the 1st gens take, but if it's Dexron II just make sure that the Royal Purple meets the same specifications...
