ive seen posts about Tacoma’s coming from factory low on trans fluid. Will they ever check levels or replace as part of Toyota care? Or is it something I should bring up? Is this issue still present on 2018s? Shifting can be a little clunky at times, not sure if related or just normally how a truck shifts gears. I don’t really want to be that guy tho. Already had a few minor things looked at.

I believe part of the regular Toyota care maintenance is to check all fluid levels, some dealerships will hassle you about it because it's more involved but they should do it.

Absolutely check it out. Expensive vehicle? Hardly. Average cost for new all new vehicles in 2016 was almost $35K. We barely meet median man.

My experience is a fluid level check is anything you can see with the hood open i.e., windshield washer, brake, power steering, and coolant. Good luck getting a dealer to check the transmission fluid level.

Exactly. Just like checking differentials and transfer case fluid. Doesn't happen.

The toyota care says to check all fluid levels. however, I had to put up quite the fight (making it all the way up to the owner of the 1st dealership) and in the end he still refused to do it for me. So i called the service managers of a different dealerships and told them that if they checked the fluid level for me, then I would be their new continued customer. Both of the other dealerships agreed to check my fluid level for me. and I have been using that dealership ever since with no complaints.

So basically ask your dealership to. if they refuse, fight it. if they still refuse...find another dealer that will check it

Mine was just under 1 quart low when new. It was clunking when shifting from Park to Reverse and from Reverse to Drive.
After adding 1 quart of fluid the clunking was gone.

Make sure you ask for the "physical" fluid check….NOT the computer one...for some reason, the computer check does not know how much tranny fluid there is in there..

Oh, mine was 1 1/2 qts. low when I checked it myself.
