Hey sorry if this has already been asked/answered, but I'll be checking my own transmission fluid without techstream. But how do you connect terminals cg (4) and tc (13) ? Or how would you "jump" them?

Copper wire pinned into each. Take a copper wire and crimp male pins onto the ends, or try to just twist the wire ends and push them in.

Sorry, so just take one piece of copper wire and insert it to each port and that should work?

Yes, probably easiest to get some speaker wire, or wire that is already sheathed at home depot or lowes.

Easier solution , drain from tranny pan, replace drain bolt when drained fully, refill at filler bolt at tailstock and add just 3.2 Qts WS ATF Fluid, replace filler bolt and test drive . Solution solve and quick and old school ! Your welcome!

Okay so I have been discussing this whole Tran fluid thing in another thread. I am now told that the whole check procedure at the dealer when done properly is about five hours to check the level. Ignoring the fact that a dip stick would have solved this entire issue, would draining the tranny and then refilling it not be too easy? This can't be as simple as it sounds. It is logical but why isn't Everyone doing this instead of a 5 hour ordeal? How long does changing the fluid take?

To be honest I don't think it's a 5 hour process unless you've been driving the truck around and the techs have to wait for the fluid to cool, then I could see that part taking hours. I purchased my truck this past Saturday and wanted the fluid check before leaving. Only problem is the dealer was driving around getting it washed and gas filled. I saw a tech remove the drain bolt, fluid came out naturally, burned him, cursed a little, put the plug back in. Put some transmission fluid in, then said I'm good to go. Didn't hook up the computer or anything, by that time I knew he had no idea and decided I'd do it myself. There's another thread about the procedure. But it doesn't take long in total from what I see, wait for the right temperature, then fill until it flows slow. Plug it up and reset battery. I think. Haha.

Sounds like you have a handle on it.
You'll still need Techstream to reset the learning memory.

I got cha, I'm not sure how accurate this is but another procedure thread said to unplug your battery and it would reset the learned memory. It could be wrong but it's worth a shot.

Why do you guys think refilling the Tran is a bad idea? I am by no means a tech guy I'm just curious. Seems like a simple solution.

I don't think it's a bad idea, it just doesn't seem cost effective for me, I know it has fluid, maybe not enough, I don't see the need to drain all and replace. It's better for me to buy two quarts rather than 3 or more.

But it's like $10 a quart isn't it? That's still way cheaper than what my dealer is going to charge me to check it. Especially if it turns out to be a long process.

90% of that time is to cool down the engine so it can
be checked at the proper temp.

How much are they charging? and why would you pay it if the vehicle is under warranty? The reason I won't take it back is because they didn't do it right the 1st time with a "seasoned tech", now I have to get my tools out for peace of mind. If you don't want to pay call corporate, tell them what's going on and maybe they'll get the dealer to check for free.

    Simple solution to what?
Drain/refill or just topping off, the truck must be in trans temp check mode for accurate fill level.

i drove to work (about 35min/ 25mi) and let it cool for about 2.5hrs. did all my prep work making sure bolts could be loosened, drip pan in place, ATF fluid mated to the hand pump, and then put it in transmission check. i work for a telcom company so making a jumper wasn't hard, i stripped a piece of ground wire.

waiting for it to cool down took the longest, the actual check/ fill process took about 30min.

my only advice is a long handled ratchet for the fill plug. i almost lost my hand to the heat shield.
