Transmission has been out now 3 years, have sales diminished? nope

Bitching about it here for 3 yrs here on TW? Yep and the TSBs followed

Were dealerships saying to the public "buy the truck now and we'll fix it later with a TSB? NOPE

    Sales still climb.

People join TW and find out they have "problems", bitching continues, demand for TSB continues...

I think most people that bitch about the 3rd GEN either don't research the truck and don't know how to test drive a vehicle, they just buy it and decide all of a sudden don't like things about it now its sour grapes and wasn't my fault

interesting. i failed to consider that Toyota could never make a mistake. cool, i appreciate your insight. it really has changed my outlook. i will refrain in the future from questioning anything i see as odd and just remind myself that Toyota designed it that way on purpose, and they know best. TSBs are just to appease whiners.

In other words, You disagree because you bought a truck that doesnt perform exactly as you want (not considering how it was designed and built) therefore the manufacturer is at fault, not you.

Read the manual and learn about the different modes of the transmission, configure as needed.

OP I experience the exact same thing as you do. Some clowns will claim lack of sufficient test drives which I think doing 4 plus driving 8 hours round trip to test a stick should satisfy the test drive question in my case. I find the transmission takes very little to entice it to downshift but a lot more to convince it to upshift. Add cruise into the equation and it takes even more to convince it to upshift.

Now my daily drives rarely hit the hwy. The transmission works fine at 80kmh. Once you hit hwy speeds the issues get worse due to additional aerodynamic drag. Cruise exemplifies the issues and now you are listening to additional engine noise and a tiny tap of the pedal and it shifts up and all is good again.

I am approaching my 32,000km service and the GM of my dealership is going to have his head tech do the full process for checking the trans fluid level just to eliminate that as an issue. They will take the truck overnight so he can do the procedure from cold to the correct fluid temp for doing the checks. We will see if that has any effect or if my level is correct and this is just how the truck works.

But 99% of the vehicles dont have 2 OD gears like the 3rd gen does.

You dont need OD gears to drive around town, you can use them but you dont NEED them so you can eliminate them, S mode does that. Truck is designed to do that but most dont take the time to learn how to do that. They just post about how they hate the current configuration and want it fixed even though it doesnt need to be fixed.

I have 4 cars and trucks, none are driven the same way, some are performance oriented, some are work oriented. Each requires a different skillset.

Sounds like some of you need to develope a new skillset.

0077-16 will correct that problem, I had the same issue with my 2016 TRD OR.
Over 2 years since update was applied to truck, never happened again
