    Specific details on the warranty?
Is this for certain tacos only (4 cyl vs 6) or the ones they find have low fluid??
Suggestions on how to get the extended warranty/key things to discuss with the dealership?

Well I had to fight with them and they are suppose to send me info in mail. Once I get it in hand I will post it. At first they was like your vehicle is covered for 60,000 miles. I argued with them that I could buy an extended warranty now even though I have coverage Touché lol! Then I proceed to tell them I drove the truck for 10,000 miles with low fluid that was supposed to be checked by dealership on pre inspection! So I told them it was either new transmission or extended warranty lol!
My truck is TRD Sport w/ tow package.

Thanks for the info. I have the same (dclb) but haven't been in for my 5000 mi yet but plan to check the fluid before I go in since I'm getting slight slippage from cold start into 2nd.

Thanks for all of the feedback guys i didn't expect to have a serious conversation to continue in it.

Good to know mine isn't the only one having issues.. Bad to know it is common!

Going to take mine to a separate dealership in a week for my 5k and have them recheck the level and get this flare documented..

Being optimistic.. Hopefully Toyota is building a tsb update and just waiting for all issues to surface so they limit the number of tsbs on this model year.. Time will tell

Does anyone else have this issue?

Yes. I find most morning starts from R to D is lags to engage in gear. After that The time between the lags is random. Sometimes it is 2 hours of sitting and it does it and just today I sat for 20 mins and it did it. I have also had it sit longer and it go into drive very smooth like a new vehicle should feel... It's very frustrating because I know it should not be acting like this.

I was called today by my local toyota dealership to let me know that the toyota rep that comes once a month will be in next Tuesday. I will hopefully have good news after that.

I discovered something this weekend that should help prove some logic issue.

Mine only does it when it is a cool engine after sitting for 1-4 hours..it does not do it from a completely cold start and it doesn't do it once completely warmed up.

Almost like the TCU engages a different set of settings when it's a cold start versus a cool/warm start.

5Th and 6th are locked out until a certain temp is reached.
Helps it come up to temp faster.

UPDATE: So I had the Toyota Rep check out my lag when I go from R to D and at first it would not duplicate, but we waited 30 mins and luckily it happened. He noticed the the RPMs jumped as soon as I went to D from R and then jumped down and then jumped again to move forward, giving that lag feeling. He told me a logic update for the gears is being worked on and should be out in 3-6 months if not sooner.

He thinks that it is a logic issue and the new logic update will hopefully fix the issue. He told me the logic update will be addressing the constant gear searching (probably not get rid of it completely due to EPA standards the truck has) and that it will be fixing the cruise control hill issue where it will go to 4th gear and stay there.

They also flashed my ECU for free. Pretty excited about the logic update.

This is good news and makes total sense . Once the transmission is filled correctly , this logic control your Toyota rep was talking about will hopefully fix up the delay . Considering the initial application going into drive range forward is controlled by the pcm and selects 2nd gear rather than first gear . Toyota calls this " SQUAWK " control .
Squawk control parameters can easily be re-written
I will add this update to the poll . There are a handfull of members at Tacoma World who are still experiencing a delay to drive after the fluid has been topped off and many members complain about the transmission sticking in 4th gear while in cruise control

    Did you m
Did you by chance mention the shifting flare?..I also have the P-D delay so that's good news..hopefully that's not a canned answer and a flash is around the corner

I went in yesterday listed my issues and got a blank stare..they said no one has came in went problems on the Tacomas when I know for a fact another user went to them. Tired of the run around..I flat out told them, I didn't want them wasting their time and just needed them to open a ticket but then he went into a whole spill about keeping it over night BUT I would have to rent a car from them (no loaner cars even when it's warranty work)..so I declined and just did the 5k tire rotation which they didn't even reset the tpms system. I will take my business elsewhere. I despise this customer service rep/manager/mechanic structure the dealerships have setup.. I just want to talk the person diagnosing and submitting tickets..

    /rant

It's good news about an update..it definitely needs it. If these trans issues and the vibration would disappear I would be extremely pleased with the truck even if it does gear down frequently.

I know this is an older thread but I am Curious to see if the op managed to get the TSB performed and if it fixed up the 2-3 flare ?

No it did not fix it but it is much less noticeable since it doesn't try to upshift under load as much.

Aggie, are you still having the 3-4 flair problem?

No, because I traded in my Taco for a Ram 1500 5.7L to tow my new 22' trailer :) . But, before I traded it in I had the TSB update done and the 3-4 flare first thing in the morning and the delayed R->D delay was gone. I really liked the truck but it doesn't have the cojones to pull 5,500 lbs even though it's rated for 6,400 (Ltd 4WD with tow pkg). If I'd known last year that we were going to be RV'ers then I would have never traded in my 2002 Silverado (single owner) for a Tacoma.

I think the TSB update for the transmission is legit and solved any minor issues I had with shifting.

I joined a couple of Dodge Ram forums to watch things like this one. Both have the occasional complaint but nothing like this forum. It's unfortunate that they don't have a Unicorn thread. The members seem to be much more civil there also.

Since this is my last post here, let me say this: I'm not a Trump fan but anyone who votes for the lying, corrupt, despicable, cheating, douche bag Clinton should tie a 50-lb sack of sand to their leg and jump in the deep part of a river.

I had/have the same flare issue. After the TSB it's much better but it's definitely still there.
