Driving on the freeway just now and my transmission kept upshifitng. As I kept giving it more gas, it down shifted. After doing that a few times, I hear grinding. So I get off the freeway. Then after driving past a light, the truck starts grinding more and goes to limp mode. I'm super pissed off right now cuz last month my dealer told me the fluid was low and they topped it off. I asked will I have any problems from driving 10 thousand plus miles on low fluid. The guy said no. I'm sitting here waiting for my tow to drop it off at the nearest dealer.

Well, you don't know the low fluid caused the problem so you can't claim your dealer wasn't honest. Sucks no matter what.

Sucks!! But the dealer is on the hook for the repair, not to mention Toyota warranty. Make sure they give you a nice loaner for your trouble:rolleyes:

Are you the same one that got an extended warranty and got their tranny checked by a 3rd party and they found that your tranny was low? Sorry to hear that man. I am having a Toyota rep that comes out once a month check out my tranny. I hope his fix is just not to fill it up. I am now 6,000 miles on this tranny and I was told it was filled two times now...

Don't freak out because you really don't know if it was a tranny fluid issue right now.

Don't go walking into the dealer telling them "it better not be TX fluid or heads are gonna roll"... keep quiet. let them find the problem. If they say it was TX fluid, THEN use the "Well, I had you check it for me before and now this happened, blah blah....".

Believe it or not my tow truck's transmission just crapped out while towing my truck. I must be bad luck.

Could have been overfilled too (that can be worse than low because then it starts foaming). Never know, at least you have a warranty and it will all be sorted out.

Toyota is very tight with their fluids. It's a rare day if they pour in extra fluids ;)

Toyota Corporate really needs to have a general recall to check for proper fluids in the transmission, this is getting to the absurd level. Anyone report the low level fluid to say the BBB or whatever governing body that can give corporate a call to make them stand up and take action.

I've been reading Toyota is giving factory remanufactured transmissions...not new.

And yes, squeeze them for an extended warranty!

    ON EDIT:

Not sure it means anything but, there's a boat load of complaints with the tranny on the NHTSA site (under the complaint tab)...also a few window crack complaints...something else I've seen on TW.

I hear ya. The unfortunate thing about the BBB is that they have about as much authority as the Cub Scouts. They are not a Federal program..... It's just a fancy, flashy (and intimidating to some people) Angie's List.

so basically anything less than federal is going to be circular filed, that's too bad, things like this can make lifetime customers switch. Switch to what, I don't know, I was looking a Jeep Rubicon before the taco, so...

Yes very tight with their $40,000,000,000+ in the bank:rolleyes:

IMO reman is better than new, they have been rebuilt by hand. Individually inspected and certified.
