The guy called me again and told me they still can't replicate the issues that I had yesterday. He said, it drove perfectly fine when they drove it today. He wanted to know how the situation started. I told him I was on the freeway going uphill. According to him, they're gonna try to drive it on the freeway tomorrow and also check the fluid level.

I had the Transmission over heat light illuminate on my truck while pulling my boat up the ramp. Dealer did not find a code for it either, but it was enough info that the tech suggested he keep the truck overnight to check the tranny fluid. (Quart low)
Service writer explained that Toyota will not pay for fluid level checks- explains why so many dealerships refuse to check it!

Well they test drove it with all the lead techs and a field manager. After driving it for 32 miles on the freeway up and down grades (according to him), they found no issues at all. They also checked the fluid and it was fine. He did tell me I have a 6 year/100k mile extended warranty. I didn't know I had that. So I guess that's some piece of mind.

That sucks they couldn't duplicate it. I would get that warranty statement printed out when you pick up your truck. If you didn't know you had it that means you didn't pay for it, or they snuck it in without your knowledge. Either way, get it printed now so it doesn't seem to disappear in the system later, especially if you didn't pay for it.

Thanks for that info. I had them print out the proof of the warranty. I still feel like I'm driving a ticking time bomb. I'm weary of going on a road trip at the end of the month I was planning up north.

I can understand the uneasy feeling about it, especially on a road trip. You did get 2 years free roadside assistance, I know it would be a huge inconvience and can ruin your trip, but if something did happen toyota would send a tow truck to come get it, then maybe it would get more attention. Maybe you could try your luck with another dealer. Where I live I have two Toyota dealers within 30 minutes of each other, one I trust, the other not so much. Its hard to believe there was no stored code, but it does happen. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.

Day after I pick the truck up, I'm stranded on the freeway with the same issue.

Well dang, that didn't last long. That's crazy how the dealer could not find anything wrong. Did it show any check lights this time? I would have that sucker towed in and request a rental and once they say nothing is wrong or they say its fixed, tell them to have the manager use it for a couple days. When it breaks down on him they will surely find a fix.

Yeah, I was driving on the freeway trying to pass a slow driver and after giving it gas, it happened again. I felt it coming so I had to get over to the shoulder ASAP. It shut off as soon as I got into the shoulder with the grinding and overheated transmission warning. Had it towed to the dealer I originally purchased it from. I'm not taking the truck back until they figure out the issue. I called the guy at Crown Toyota in Ontario who told me everything was fine and left him a nice voicemail letting him know I was stuck on the side of the freeway.

The AC60 is a POS. I guess the A760 doesn't mate up to the van motor. And using the primitive A750 wouldve been a bad idea, I guess.

Sucks that so many guys are wasting their valuable time away from their families and other stuff to deal with this runaround BS at the dealers.

    You fanboys were taken.

    MAKE TOYOTA GREAT AGAIN!

It does appear the dealer tried to simulate the problem by driving it 32 miles. That's much more than what most dealers would do.

How many miles did you drive it after getting it back from the dealer, before the problem showed up again?

Wonder if it's an overdrive issue and the shop drove it around in the city without ever running awhile on the highway.

Yeah. They said they were on the 210 freeway driving up grades. I know the 210 freeway. There's no major grades on it near the dealership. Seems like when you floor it, thats when the transmission starts going crazy and shuts down the truck.

I drove it about 70 miles since I got it back from the dealer.

Update: The dealer called me and informed me it was my Crankshaft Position Sensor causing the problems I've been having.

There have been numerous other reports of this issue. Wonder if a TSB will be coming for this down the road.

They should check the catalytic converter too. A bad CPS can cause the engine to run too rich.
