Transmission interchange

Unfortunately my automatic transmission is done. Just wondering what years will fit ? I have the A44D not an A340e. Truck is a 4x2 with a 2.4L. A local wrecker insists that he has one from a 99 that will fit but my local Toyota guru insists that only a 2003 or 2004 will fit. Meanwhile i thought that 2001-2004 would work
