Hey all, I'm new here. I'm hoping you can help me out a bit. I think I've got an issue with my transmission. Sometimes when I'm accelerating from a full stop, the acceleration just cuts out, as if I've taken my foot off the pedal even though I'm still giving it gas. I have to very quickly take my foot off the pedal and then punch it in order for it to re-engage and speed up. It also happens sometimes when I'm coming to a rolling stop (at a stop light), but the light will turn green and I give it some gas. Same thing, it's as if I'm not even pressing down on the gas pedal even though I am.

If this has been discussed before, can you please direct me to the thread. Or, if anybody knows what the issue may be, please let me know. I've told the dealer about this many times and they keep saying they've never heard of it before. Any help is greatly appreciated. Have a great 4th of July weekend!

When it doesn't want to go and you're on the gas what does the RPMs do?

The RPM's drop down as if the truck is in neutral.

Place foot on gas and RPMs drop... this does not sound like a transmission problem. Sounds like an issue with the drive-by-wire throttle.

I agree with DGXR. OP do you have any check engine codes?

Definitley doesnt sound like a tranny problem. Sounds more like a fuel delivery issue.

First thing I would do is pull codes. There may not be a CHECK light. You could have PENDING code(s).

Codes or not, I would next pull and clean the Mass Air Flow Sensor - MAF sensor using a cleaner specifically for this. CRC makes one. Lots of how-to-clean-MAF videos on youtube.
The cleaning technique for a MAF is not necessarily mfg. specific. You pull it and blast it with the cleaner. Don't not touch the sections that resemble filament.
While you are at it ensure air filter is also clean. After you blast the MAF several times with the cleaner, let it air dry for about 30 min. then reinstall and reconnect elect. connection.
After that, start it up and take it for a spin.

Here's video for a 4Runner. MAF setup is very similar to a 2nd Gen Tacoma. Ignore the throttle body cleaner you see at start of video. Later he uses the correct product.

I would be willing to bet that the OP has his foot resting on the brake pedal or a flaky brake switch.

If the ECU see's the brake and the throttle at the same time it cuts the throttle. This is due to the "unintended acceleration fiasco" years ago.

Interesting...every now again I've got an issue with my brake lights as well. Sometimes I'll turn off the engine and notice the brake lights are still on. I've got to pump the brake pedal so they'll turn off.

Sounds like you just found the problem. Adjust the brake light switch.
