Transmission? Issue

Hey all,
If my 06 Prerunner auto transmission starts acting weird will there be an idiot light on the dash for a code ?
I'm not 100% sure its trans related but my truck started doing weird stuff this morning, like a hesitation. I don't think its the motor as it was rebuilt about 35k miles ago.
I've got a little over 350k miles on the truck and trans overall.

 

How old are the spark plugs?

 

Same as the motor.

 

Start with the plugs

 

I will check that out. I usually replace my plugs around 50k.

 

But back to my OP....is there a "check engine" type light for the trans?

 

There can be, but not always.
Plenty of guys had problems and no light.
Sometimes it is low fluid, other times it is different things.

It all depends on on what the “real” problem is as to whether you will have a light.

Aaaand it threw a code on my way home.
P0305. Cylinder 5 misfire.
Hoping its just the spark plug or coil pack.

 

How is the coolant level?
How long have you had the plugs in?
How many miles on the truck?

 

I assume the motor was rebuilt because of heat gasket?

 

Saw your thread about head gasket, I have heard only bad things about rebuilt motors. Hopefully you have some kind of warranty. Talked to some people who have had to replace the head gasket only to have it go bad again within a year.

 

Move the coil and plug to a different cylinder and see if the code follows

 

Replaced the cylinder 5 spark plug with a new one and problem solved.
I figure I might as well replace the other 5 while I'm at it.

 

Did the coil have oil on it at the plug or was it dry?

 

Everything appeared dry. The plug electrodes were a little crusty but not oily or wet.
