Yeah, I have done just that; cleaned it and plan on checking it periodically
It could be a plate gasket, that was my first thought when I saw the leak from below; and that's what the OP's problem was

This may not be your problem, but on my 2003 5spd, I had a leak and it turned out to be right below the point you are looking at and toward the front of the truck just a bit. There is a short tube sticking up and it had just a rubber cap on it. The cap deteriorated and fell off and out comes the gear oil. I went to Advance Auto and got a selection of rubber caps and that fixed it.

I could reach up from underneath the drivers side and feel (couldn't see it directly). That's when I felt the tube with no cap or anything connected to it. I could see it with a mirror from the top or bottom with a flash light.

The drawing might help. The two red circles show the location, tube, and cap.

    Thanks!
I sure do appreciate your help

I see this tube and cap on mine as well
However, the leak looks to be coming from the Transmission, not the Transfer Case

I suppose I'll just replace those plate gaskets and see what happens
    Trial and error time

I'm talking VERY minimal overfill, cause a lot of folks on here recommend that on the 1st Gen Manuals with MT-90
I didn't accidentally pump and extra quart in the there and then leave it

I have since drained that, leaving it level with the bottom of the fill
And I'm still getting wet spots there

I have had the same problem with my 2010 Tacoma with a manual 5 speed, had the clutch replaced started leaking after that from the top of the transmission. Thought is was the gasket where the shifter goes in the 4 bolts were loose. Tightened those. It only leaks when I go on long trip like 100 miles or more, talked to a mechanic he said not to worry about it because it was such a small amount of oil. I sprayed the the whole tranny with athletes foot powder before my long trip this week end. Looks like it coming from the hose so am going to try replacing the hose see if that fixes it.
