    1998 Tacoma, automatic

I have a pretty bad transmission fluid leak on a line running down the right (passenger) side of the tranny right near the exhaust.... a friend of mine took a look under and said it was the transmission fluid return line and that it should be pretty easy to swap out but I can't seem to find any info online at all as far as parts or replacing/fixing...

Anyone familiar with what I am talking about?

Which part is leaking? There is a 90 degree (roughly) union that threads into the side of the transmission and connects to the inverted flare hard line. The part that is threaded into the transmission uses an o-ring to seal. The part that threads onto the hard line seals without anything extra since it is a flare fitting.

    O-ring part number 90301-11006

If you need to replace the union, the one labeled as outlet is actually the inlet in toyota's system. I ordered the inlet part number, thinking I would get the return line union, but I actually got the outlet line union.

it seems to be leaking from the end of the 90-degree union that threads onto the hard line.

Does that means I need to replace the 90-degree union? do you know the part number or name? or is it just called the "90-degree transmission fluid return line union"?

This is how toyota labels them (although your link is opposite)
    Inlet – 90407-16012
    Outlet - 90407-16009

The front union (the longer one) is the return line and is part number 90407-16009

If it is leaking at the hard line to union connection, you might be able to tighten it. If you do this I suggest using a brake line wrench.

The o-ring goes on the transmission side.

There is no telling if the hard line or the union is bad until you remove it.
