Yes, it also hurt fuel economy. More than likely this new flash we get will do the same. Don't think there is any alternative at this point.

I'd gladly take more low end torque and less gear hunting for a 1 to 2 mpg decrease avg in Fuel Economy. I have serious doubts it would even be that much of an impact.

I just did my customer Quality Control survey. It was in 2 parts. The first part was for engineering and the second part was for their Quality control Department. The first part touched on most of the issues here and the second part included all the same questions as the first part and went into more detail as to the quality of the whole truck. It didn't touch on dealer issues. I raped them a good one on the automatic transmission and idle surge issues especially when backing up. I doubt it will go anywhere but I am at least a bean in the count. Most of the other issues and complaints with the 2016 I don't have.

For my sanity I drive my V6 Offroad 2016 in ect mode these days. Equal parts stop and go freeway and stop and go streets. I get 17-19 MPG in ect and the rare long freeway run shifter in drive I have gotten 20.5 But I have less than 2000 miles on the truck. Other than rock sliders and some stickers, the truck is the same as it left the factory. I use California blend Chevron regular gas. Street only mileage takes a severe hit in mileage numbers. I do allot of less than 5 mile jaunts.

I'm not sure exactly what the issues are that people are having with shifting on cruise control. Mine seems to work fine, if I'm on the highway and it's on cruise control, usually it's in 6th gear and purring nicely. If I head up hill, it will drop to 5th to keep the speed steady. I would venture to say the cruise control on my 2010 4Runner was a lot more unusual, it had a tendency to shift gears all the time and it wasn't uncommon for the thing to send me screaming past the set speed when going up a hill. It was ok on a flat road but anywhere else and it was all over the place.

Be careful? All they could do is improve it.

Oh, and regarding your cruise control issues, what were the problems? My 2013 works very nicely.

The EPA stuff is BS. The way it is now, many of us are flooring it to get the torque we need, which is much worse on fuel usage. If the EPA doesn't cave, people are not going to even come close to the EPA numbers they are estimating for this vehicle wihtout driving extremely feather-footed.

After my first tank got about 15 MPG (I'm assuming they filled it with 87 or 89). My second tank I used 92 octane and got about 18. Several drives I've been able to achieve over 20 MPG average. But that is with extreme feather-foot and shifting to nuetral on any semblance of a downhill slope to coast it up to better numbers. If I were to drive this thing normally, or in the spirited way it is supposedly supposed to be driven. I would be getting about 16 MPGs with 92 octane. That may get better after my first 1 - 2k miles. Have to see.

It worked, I just didn't like the way it worked. Speed would drop below the set speed by 2-3mph then drop a gear and race back up to 2-3 over. Several trips back and forth between Seattle between Redding and the Bay Area I used it occasionally and each time I hit a little head wind it would do that and I didn't like the constant dropping a gear to play catch up. I just choose not to use it anymore. I like having my foot on the pedal a lot more than using CC.

When cruise is set to about 70-75 and tries to stay at the set speed during wind or any incline it will sometimes drop to 4th and stay there until you manually turn cruise off. The Toyota rep told me it is another logic issue that will be fixed in the update.

Unplugging the battery for at least 30 mins erases the short term memory. Not the long term. You have to flash it to get it back to factory memory.

As has been said. Drops from 6th gear to a lower gear to ascend a hill but once the hills is crested and you resume flat terrain the transmission is reluctant to assume the high gear that was previously acceptable. You need to tap the CC down, tap it up or, turn it off in order for the truck to pick the higher gear. I have no other issue with the transmission or any other part of the truck.

Don't think they can significantly change the tune of the tranny. RPMs are dead until hit 3,000 or more RPMs. Not the same on the manual. You would have to totally re-gear the auto to get it drive good again and they can't do that with the EPA. The auto would need totally redone to make it feel anything like the 4.0 or the the 3.6 in the Colorado. If the 3.5 auto drove like the Colorado I would own one by now.

That's interesting. Wonder of there is something different with the Canadian software.

It's odd that it takes so long to fix the issues. I traded in a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee that also had shifting issues from the start and Jeep released a fix in a couple of months. I didn't have to print anything out or argue.. it was simply fixed when I brought it in. The shift points are wonky on this truck and Toyota knows it.. so fix it. The process doesn't have to be complicated and make the customers frustrated.

I like my cruise control when I have a tailwind or on a day the wind is not blowing here on the prairie.

I think you misunderstood my post. I know software can be complicated.. I've been a professional software developer for the past 20 years and the software I've developed is used in highly complex financial applications where hundreds of billions of dollars are managed. That said.. what shouldn't be complicated is once there is a TSB.. getting the dealer to apply it to your vehicle. Others were mentioning printing it off, then arguing with the dealer, etc.. that's all. Getting the dealer to apply a TSB shouldn't be a difficult process.

Go drive 75mph and over and report back. You will be in 4th and 5th gear most of the time unless you have a hell of a tail wind.
