Hey all, I'm trying to track down a clunk on takeoff, center support bearing has already been replaced so I'm on to suspecting the rear transmission mount. Clunk is worse when warm, which is why I'm suspecting a rubber item. I'd like to say that I feel that that when I rev the engine on takeoff I can feel a hesitation as the trans mount takes up the slack, but to be honest at this point I could be just convincing myself. Next step would be to buy a go pro and mount it under there to look while driving.

Does this amount of flex look normal? Sorry for the camera stability, I knocked it a couple times with the pry bar while trying to get the shot.

essentially the slip joint needs to be greased otherwise it binds up and creates the clunk feeling.

There's a rubber accordion boot behind the center support bearing of the 2 pc driveshaft. It covers a spline joint that allows the 2pc shaft the lengthen and shorten as the suspension flexes. I can grab a pic tonight or if you Google image searcg "Tacoma slip joint" it should point you to the right thing.

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
There was a TSB for that mount on my 05. Not sure if 07 was part of that or not.

On my friend's '09, the plastic bushing is offset to much in the cross-member hole. Under certain heavy loads, it can hit and make a "thud" sound, which resonates in the cab.

Something else to just inspect. That is why he is interestedin the DTF trans mount.

If you are a prerunner you will not have a slip joint after the CB, instead you have a slip yoke at the trans that is continually lubed by AFT.
