Usually people go with something other than the Toyota fluid because the Toyota stuff is expensive, but Amsoil probably costs more so I'd just stick with the Toyota stuff.

You can do anything your little heart desires.

However, in this case I'd just stick to what the factory recommends.

Use Dex 2 or 3 type and whatever brand you want. You don’t need OEM and it won’t hurt.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
    From the 2002 owners manual.............

    AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Fluid capacity (drain and refill), L (qt.,
    Imp. qt.):
    Two−wheel drive models except Pre
    Runner
    Up to 2.4 (2.5, 2.1)
Four−wheel drive models and Pre Runner
    Up to 2.0 (2.1, 1.8)
    Fluid type:
    Automatic transmission fluid D−II or
    DEXRONIII (DEXRONII)

    TRANSFER
Oil capacity, L (qt., Imp. qt.):
    1.0 (1.1, 0.9)
    Oil type:
Gear Oil API GL−4 or GL−5
    Recommended oil viscosity:
    SAE 75W−90

You'll not find that on shelves in stores anymore. It's been superseded several times.

You'll want to look for Dexron VI or a fluid that specifies it's backward compatible with Dexron II/III

    4 run, 2 don't
If they used that much, then they made sure to drain out all the old fluid, and use new fluid to push the old stuff out. Good job.
