This may be an odd question but searching online I am getting conflicting answers...

Does a 2000 Prerunner 2.7 NOT take a transmission oil pan gasket? Does it only take a sealant?

Asking because the parts look up online gives me 3 scenarios for that section in the trans and 2 of the 3 don't have a gasket.

    4 run, 2 don't
    Been discussed before.

The transmission used FIPG from the factory, and lasts damn well a long time.

There are two different brands that offer a replacement gasket; some use it without issue, others have leaking occur.

Someone intelligently discussed when it was appropriate to use FIPG, and when it was appropriate to use a gasket, based on the pan itself. If I recall correctly, FIPG was recommended.

I had issues with the gasket, even after everything was thoroughly cleaned, torqued to spec, and checked again within 100 miles to ensure bolts were still torqued down -

I went with FIPG as I should've, and my seeping issue was resolved -

This was done on a transmission with well over 265k miles without ever having had the pan off.
