Was driving around town today and decided to play in the snow for a bit as we got a descent amount of snow. Was going pretty fast and sliding sideways, backwards, upsidedown, and whatever other ways you can think of through the snow. Well that was fun. :D Then i go to put my truck in reverse and i cant shift the auto tranny into reverse. I just physically cannot push the shifter into that position. Pretty much stuck in "D". Cant move down or up. So im thinking theres probably snow that got thrown up from my tires and is somehow physically blocking the mechanical device from moving. So i drove it home and parked and since you cant remove your key unless the truck is in park, i had to leave the key in the ignition in accessory mode. So i am going to wake up to a dead truck that will likely still not shift out of drive because we may not get back above freezing temps for quite some time.
Has this ever happened to anybody else and how did they fix it? Am i correct in that snow is blocking me from shifting?
I would really like to know the how and why behind this if possible.
The truck in question is basically a stock 2001 tacoma.

Check the shift lock release. Should be under a little door just above park. It's plastic and you need a screwdriver to remove it so be gentle or it will break.

    Here is a video:

If not that check the fuse, You might have blown it.

    That's my best guess

alright heres how it went down. got out there and battery still had juice. truck would go to all gears but park. checked fuses and messed with shift lock. nothing. crawled under truck and knocked all kinds of melting snow out from underneath and up in all the nooks and crannies i could get into. hopped back into the truck soaking wet and muddy. apply a little extra pressure to the shifter and walah. she goes into park. figured id post this for future generations lol. thanks for the help guys!
