Just picked up a 2013 Tacoma a few weeks ago. 4wd 4.0 liter auto trans sr5 package. Im starting to notice the 3rd to 4th shift is relatively rough. It "shudders" the truck. The 4th to 3rd downshift is also noticeably "grabby". 66,000 miles on the truck. Any suggestions? Thanks, much appreciated

@gearcruncher may be able to help you further but first I would say check your transmission fluid level and appearance, this thread contains alot of information on your transmission including how to check fluid level.
Also do you have a check engine light on and/or have you checked for codes?

Problems with transmission fluid are pretty rare unless someone allowed the fluid to get too hot at some point. Newer vehicles have a lot of electronics involved with everything. Including when, and how the transmission shifts. I've had mice chew through insulation on wires that caused transmissions to shift wonky. Take it to a reputable shop and have them check for codes. Check for naked wires.

I actually took our Honda in for a transmission rebuild a couple of years ago based on how it shifted and the codes it was throwing. I had only been home 1/2 hour after dropping it off when they called me to come back and get it. Before pulling the transmission someone noticed naked wires. They shrink wrapped them, test drove it, then called me to come and get it. Charged me 1/2 hour labor.

Interested to know if 3 to 4th is rough when the transmission is cold .
Interested to know if 4cto 3 is also rough when the truck is cold .
Your transmission is a 5 speed automatic .
Do you have a device for scanning codes ?

I don't have anything for scanning codes. It is rough when it is cold and warm seems like. However it seems the 3rd to 4th shift seems smoother under heavier accelerations.
