I have noticed that my 2002 double cab takes alot longer to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear when it is cold. It only happens between 2nd and 3rd. When its cold out and the truck is a little past fully warmed up, it shifts perfectly and obviously shifts perfectly when it is warm out all the time. . I know the original owner drained the trans fluid and just replaced what was drained. Is this normal behavior or do u think maybe the wrong trans fluid was added. . . Thanks

some vehicles are programmed to hold gears longer when they're cold to get rpm up to help warm up the engine and tranny. I don't know if Toyota does this or not, but if it seems fine otherwise id assume its normal.

Mine does that too. Just the way they are programmed. Pretty much most if not all cars (excluding CVT trans cars) will hold gears a little longer when cold

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I was going to ask this same question. Glad to know I'm not the only one, mine will hold in 2nd gear for a good while but shifts out at 2500 RPM and once warmed up, at 2000 RPM.
